Don't quite know where this fits but if it is the wrong area, maybe mods can help relocate....here it goes, just bought a 93 ranger with a 4.0/auto in it for a woods truck and while it does have spark and fuel pressure (38lbs) it will not start. I did take it in the woods one day and drove it on the road and it had good power. It is weird sometimes it will run and when it does it runs well. Other times it will crank and not start although it has fuel and spark. One time it was running fine and then just shut off (don't know fuel/spark at that particular time). Any ideas on where to go next? Thanks in advance-Derrick

Doesn't sound all that interesting :)

You are losing fuel or spark, mechanics(compression) are fine if it runs once in awhile.

4.0l uses a separate module for spark and they are pretty bullet proof unless there is a front end fender bender.

But fuel pumps are an issue as they get older.
I would carry a can of Quick Start and next time it doesn't start spray some in the intake and crank, if it fires up then dies fuel pump is going bad or fuel pump relay

Inertia switch connections ??
