There is alot of music out there. Apparently not enough for my appetite thought.

I dont listen to much country or rap. I like my ROCK:icon_hornsup: , folk, house, and some 'emo' :bawling: stuff, lol.

I love finding new stuff. Thats what this post is about. I was just going to share some of the artist that I find interesting and worth while, hopefully someone else will like one or two. And then it would be cool if you could share your odd/original/neat/prefferably non mainstream artists with the rest of us to. Try and think up stuff that other peeps probably haven't heard of. (EG, if it's on the radio then others have probably heard it, lol)

Rock-ish stuff
Alexisonfire - IknowIknow, mainstream, but these guys broke ground back in the day
Chevelle - Not tremendously original (IMO) but they showed their worth latly, thus, note-worthy.
Death From Above 1979 - a short lived band composed of only a Bassist and a drummer. They know how to make a fun song. Dont listen to them back to back thought, too repetitive.
Dethklok - If you cant stomach the voice, try and enjoy the wicked guitar, lol.
Eagles of Death Metal - Death by Sexy babe. Not what you think.
Matt Mays - okok, you might have heard this on the radio, once.
Murder City Sparrows - just flies in mud.

Emo :bawling:
Brand New - IDK how long they've been around, but again, I think theyr'e good.
Cursive - Ingenious, veryvery ingenious.
Do Make Say Think - weirdo's. haha
Dresden Dolls
- I'm apprehensive about associating myself with these two, they are strange.
Jeff Buckley - This mans' voice makes me jealous. I'm sure he had girls jumping in his pants.
Lovage - Music to make love to your old lady.
Postal Service - ya, postal.
Rob Szabo - Super nice guy.
Yoav - AMAZING voice, on par with DallasGreen and JeffBuckley I think.... (Holy Cheekbones Batman!)

IDK
Supergrass - fun vid
Wintersleep - east coast folk.

I'm not interested in this becoming a "this is better than that" showdown. Thats lame and immature. Just share some cool things, thats what TRS is about (IMO), except for trucks, lol. I'm just 'intruding' with my music stuff.

If you like Lovage, check out some of Mike Patton's other projects; Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas...

I'm not too sure how "popular" these bands are, but I'm pretty sure I haven't heard them on the radio;
Hot Water Music
88 Fingers Louie
And you will know us by the trail of dead (Kinda popular, but these guys are amazing.)
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Common Rider

some of these are a little mainstream but they're still not hugely known, and I was listening to some of them before they were on the radio. Most of them are on the radio now, or had one or two songs on the radio and then died off the the main, or they are mainstream, but not widely recognized.

Thanks man! Good stuff, I will be picking up a few new discs, my few downloads made it apparent the discs will be worth it! (did you care for any of the ones I listed? I hope so, to keep it even, lol)

Read this ^ again and tell me what you think (rhetorical.)
Sry man, but almost all the bands your listed are on the radio, or OLD, or I already have 15 of their songs, lol
( you listed postal service... I already listed, them, lol) Do you get out to much of the arts'y scene in Calgary? There has got to be some good stuff there! And there is always hot chics. Speaking of hot chics. Check out a band called The Dudes. They are a fun band (from calgary) and there is normally some hawt chics there.

I've never heard of any of this stuff.

Maybe, in search of something new you could trace back to the roots of American music, which we owe to slaves trying to endure life in the fields; Mississippi delta sons of slaves trying to endure life in the impoverished south; the trip up the Blues Highway to the hopes of work in the north. If you can tap your foot to it, it came from here. There's no real difference between Metallica and rap if you are playing it on the drums.

This:
Bernice Johnson Reagon

Becomes This:
Mississippi John Hurt
there are lots of great old recordings from guys traveling the south in the 20s-40s looking for local talent making recordings, playing them on the radio.

Becomes this:
Wilson Pickett

And this, and everything else:
Hootie and the Blowfish

Thing I like a about these guys is it's white-boy music, but a black soul voice from a guy raised on gospel and old soul records.

If you like Eagles of Death Metal, check out Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age. Other bands of honorable mention, Helmet (90's hard rock band that a lot of people today are influanced by), Classic Case, One Minute Silence (a little heavier than all the afore mentioned bands but really good).

Oh yeah, the Hootie and the Blowfish singer has a country song, heard it on the radio the other day, Go figure.

Thats the problem living in Lexington Kentucky. All the rock radio stations around here are owned by the same company and have similar playlist. You cant request anything not on the playlist. I lived in Ohio for my high school days and listen to the Thundering Buzzard WMMS. they would at least on weekends play some off the wallstuff. Oh well glad I got satelight radio in the truck

Almost every single one of my CD's I've had to order because stores just don't sell them, and half of the time when I ask them if they have someone, they just give me a blank look. Then about 6 months - 1 year afterwards, they hit it big.

I have heard of The Dudes, I don't like them. Most of the music thats being made in Calgary is either Hip Hop, or just sucks. The last bands to come from Calgary that I enjoy is Tegan and Sara, and The Stampeder's (Ya, like their a new band).

I gave up finding new music, It was getting expensive, I'm all up for supporting bands I like, and I will not download music. But then again, I'm not going to pay $40 for a CD either, like I had to do with The Spill Canvas, back when they were only a small band from South Dakota, Evermore, where I had to order them straight from Australia, since no one here had heard of them, I have 2 HiM CD's that I had to order from their website, since they weren't sold in North America at the time. Now I'll go into a store, and see them sitting on a shelf, thats about 3 years later. Most of my music is about $25-30/CD, most of the CD's I have are about 30 minutes long, some longer, some shorter, considering I have about 200 CD's, Thats added up quite quickly, even with some of them being mainstream. In Calgary if you don't listen to Hip Hop or true mainstream (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, ect) then nobody has any Idea what it is. Amazingly for how big Calgary is, the music here sucks. I've been to music festivals here and most of the time, there will be one or two head lining bands and then the rest are just small bands that can't play worth shit. Maybe for every 50 crappy bands you'll get a good one.

Oh, another good band is Billy The Kid, check into her, if you haven't already.

And almost every band you listed is played on the radio here, aside from 5 or 6 of them. Some of them are played all the time too, again 5.

Easy dude, I wasn't trying to call you out or anything. I supose with us both being in Alberta our radio might run to close to each other.... bummer eh. Well, whateve'. I appreciate the effort. Thnks for the BillyTheKid drop.

"either Hip Hop, or just sucks" lol, same thing as far as my ears know. hiphopsucks.

There's a difference.

A few bars might "look" the same on paper, but how it's played with style and dynamics will completely change the feel of something. You're not going to see a guy playing rap that beats the shit out of his drums. I would say "like Lars", but the guy isn't that great (seen him live?).

That's like saying apple == orange is true.

Pete

I know exatcly what you're talking about. There doesn't seem enough music I can get my hands on. It seems every time I get into a band they go mainsteam and all there shit gets played on the radio and that seems to ruin it for me!

If you like chick singers, there's paramore for example. Good band love the music. It kinda went mainstream around here. They play one song of theirs so much, i can't even stand it anymore.

There is a local band here in Lincoln called MEMBRATA. They are very kick ass. They may remind you of old school and new school metal mixed together. Maybe if metallica, megadeth, chevelle, etc. just all had one big love child. Look them up on lime wire, can't find them on youtube.
