I have found a 2000 4.0 extended cab 5 speed that is in great condidtion. The interior looks like it just came off the showrrom floor and exterior is in excellent condition overall. It has 118,000 miles on it. The owner is an older gentleman I work for from time to time and know well. He bought it recently for driving around his 700+ acres of land. He doesnt know much about it (he didnt really care when he bought it) but from the looks of it I would say it has a 6'' suspension lift. It is sitting on new 33x12.50-15 A/T tires. I do not know if it has been re geared. Overall the truck is in excellent condition.

My question is mostly about the reliability of the drivetrain with a lift like that and tires of that size. Can the stock axles, transfer case and transmission hold up or should I be worried about it? I dont know much about the Dana 35 IFS front axle on it. I know re gearing it will help and if I bought it I would re gear it to 4.56 and put a locker in the rear axle. I am seriously considering making him an offer on it but I would like to know more about these issues first.

Well it should be fine if taken care of. If the truck is 4x4, don't forget you need to change front and rear axle gear ratios, can't do just one.
I would concern more with... a lifted truck with bigger tires has probably been beat on, do you really want to buy someone's project?
I say buy a nice, OEM Ranger that you know is well maintained and driven normally.

It's good and reliable up to 35" tires.

Only concerns really are the upper balljoints and hub assemblies.

It is 4X4, I understand you have to change gearing in both axles. One reason why I am considering it is because I can get it for a real good price. A lot less than what it would cost me to buy a similar truck and lift it and get tires and rims. Honestly, if I got it the truck would never be used for hard offroading, just playing in the mud every now and then.

What about the electric transfer case. How reliable is it and does it have any problems I should know about?

the shift motors like to go out but other than that they're good.
