hello everyone.

May i just say i love my ford ranger...saved my life in a accident and ill buy another one any day!!!

Anyhoo,

I have a ASS-tastic smell coming from the insulation under the vinyl of the floor. Took a look and found that it is soaking wet and muddy...not the good mud either.
I was wondering of anyone knew where would be the best place to pick up some replacement insulation. and how i should then seal it?

Thanks guys

thx man i could image its not very expensive

under padding insulation or Underlay .There are three main types of underlay- rubber, foam and felt

Carpet underlay only reduces the amount of noise inside

Cool...I was looking for some underpadding myself because I had a small leak in my windshield...

As far as the OP, before doing anything rip everything out (carpet wise) and run water over your truck (close the doors and windows first, eh~) to see if you have a leak...could be just slosh from slush like we get up here in O Canada...but if it's a leak you want that fixed...

Im pretty sure its from snow and slush and mud from winters and rain storms. plus idk who owned this thing before me, but last year when i start cleaning it out, i found a joker card in the upper molding(above my head)and about about 100 cigarette butts under the vinyl.

I use an insulation called Low-E. Its kinda like that thin foil insulation you see at home depot but much better. Its 1/4" thick and has a R-value of 11. It's closed cell and imperviouse to water and has both heating and cooling characteristics. We have used it in cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, buildings, campers just about everywhere. Only problem is you can buy it in small quantities unless you know someone like me lol.

im not so much worried about heat, just the smell

I generally prefer Dynamat for inside the body heat barriers and sound deadening
Dynamat also water proofs the area

I think the other key to good heat insulation in these cars is to replace the jute that goes under the carpet with a closed cell insulation with foil on both sides. Typically this would be 3/8-1/2" thick and would go under your carpets. but you may be able to find it at home centers or HVAC supply houses. I installed Dynamat in my car and then later put in the Low-e and it made more of a difference on heat transfer than the Dynamat. The Dynamat seemed to do more for sound than heat in my car. And unlike the jute, if you get water in the car this stuff won't smell

Sounds like what I used in my Ranger cap when I tried to insulate it...came in a roll about ten feet...it wasn't too expensive back then, but I'm sure it's doubled in price...might try that again if I can find it...good stuff...Home Depot et al carry it...
