Instrument panel removal....

I have a 93 2wd 5spd 2.3L.
I bought it with an after market tach already installed and I think its wiring is causing problems. At 1st the instrument panels lights would come on and off when the lights were on ( well one side of the cluster any how ). As I played with the tach wires I noticed that the movement effected half of the instrument cluster lighting ( the left half ).
SO I embarked on removing the cluster. I was stopped abruptly after removing the panel below the steering column. I can see no way to remove the radio, heater AC bezel or the bezel around the instrument cluster in order to remove the cluster its self to check the wiring.

How do I do it fellas ?

Is it a factory radio or aftermarket?

There are 2 little screws where the ash tray is, 3 in top of cluster surround, and the rest are push-pin type..............mine had an aftermarket radio in it when I bought it & the bracket for it came out with the surround:

Like he mentioned, just remove the ashtray and you'll see the 2 screws that hold the bezel. The heater panel doesn't come off with the bezel (dash trim). Hopefully you have the tool to remove the radio. Once that's out, the frame just pops off. Be very careful especially around the steering column. Then you can get at the gauge cluster. I just did mine this past weekend.

Other than the two screws that retain the ashtray assembly the entire dash trim is retained with spring clips, you get get your fingers behind it and yank it off.

You can buy the stock radio removal tool at parts stored for about $9.00 or go out in your flower bed and pull 2 of the u shaped anchors holding the weed block down and use em. I keep a couple in my console for just in case.

it isn't always necissary to remove the radio...

SOME installations have the radio mounted BEHIND the facia instead of mounting
radio TO the facia.
