Hey guys I need some info on installing my v8. First of all i have heard that it is best to put the motor in first, then install the trany from the bottom, is this the best way to go? Oh by the way I have a 99 ranger 4x4 and a 2001 explorer motor and trans using my transfer case with the 5" adapter from AA. My next question is should I go ahead and put my torque monster headers on then install my motor? Also what about the rest of my engine stuff, alternator, ac compresser, power steering pump. Im just looking for a good guideline to go by and any info will help. Thanks

Unless you remove the cab or chop out the core support, you'll have to install the engine and transmission separately.

There is more room to maneuver the engine in without the accessory drive installed. Same for the radiator. I also leave the upper intake off until after the engine is in position.

I would definitely install the Torque Monsters to the engine before engine installation. The only downside is that the motor mount to motor plate nuts are harder to access with the TMH in place. Even so, I find it MUCH easier to mount the headers first.

i lifted the cab of the frame and set the motor on the frame. it was easy and went quick. but if you dont have a car lift just separate the motor and the trans or cut the rad support. good luck.

How did you guys do your sparkplug wires around those headers? Did you make your own wires or did you buy some already to length. If possible send me some pics of how you routed the wires.

I used factory wires and mimicked the stock routing as much as possible. I also adapted and reused the factory wire stays and standoffs. Boots must be carefully positioned to avoid wire contact with the primaries.

DS : #7 and #8 above the stock valve cover and looped around the back. Heat sleeves were needed on those two cylinders because of the tall TMH primaries. In the DS picture, the #7 sleeve had not yet been added.

PS: #4 along the top edge of the valve cover and looped around to the plug.
