ok I’m getting ready to install my junkyard lift well not all of it is from the jy some are from members on here. But its all mixed stuff. And I have a few questions. I have james axel drop brackets and dual shock towers the older style ones where there’s a shock in front of the axel and back. I also have 4in super lift coils. So I’m going for 4inchs of lift. My first questions is can I just by any shock that’s for a 4 inch lift or would I have to by james duff shocks? I want a good brand at a good price so I was thinking james duff, skyjacker, ranchos, or pro comps whatever I can get the best deals on. I also have the radius arms drop brackets coming and drop pitman arm. So I have everything I need for the front does anybody see any problems with the parts I’m using? I know duff lifts are only 2.5-3 inches and I’m using 4inch springs I think it should work put I’ll probably need a front end aligment for sure. For the rear I ordered some belltech 6400 and I’m picking up a set of explorer spring from the jy.

you should be ok with going 4 inches but yes youll need an alignment...

as for shocks a standard 4 inch over stock wont work with the towers they will be too short...contact duff and see how long of shocks youll need

with the mix of lift parts, you are going to have to break out the tape measure.

leave a coil out and but the axle beam to the bumpstop. measure distance between shock mounts

after putting the coils in, lift the front by the frame until the axles don't droop anymore. measure distance between shock mounts

then the search begins. search online, or bug your local auto parts store, for collapsed and extended shock lengths. find one that is close to your specs. with any luck, it will be a "stock application" shock for who-knows-what, and may be cheap.

collapsed length is the more important one. you want the axle to hit the bumpstop before the shock bottoms out. you can easily adjust your bumpstops to help with this

i got 2 inches out of my stock explorer leaves....i wanted more so i added the ranger main and second...that brought it up between 3-4 inches of lift :)

thanks i thought i might have to wait till after the left was on to messure for shocks just wasnt really sure on how to do it till now. plus i've been debating on rather to use the dual shocks or not. not sure if there will be any benfits from it. i'm going to be installind 33's on it and some day find some extended radius arms to put on it.

well i decided not to use the dual shocks. since i want to get extended radius arms i will just wait and see if i can use them with arms. so i bought some skyjacker shocks got a good deal on ebay. i'll have to post some pics when i'm all done.
