Hey guys, :icon_confused:

I'm planning to install a custom sound system and need advice on wiring :stirthepot: (8 gauge wire, from my amp to my battery) , I'm just wondering about my firewall...are there pre-drilled holes that go directly into the cab? .. (ex: under the steering column ? )

2001 Ford Ranger XLT Super-Cab :headbang:

Thanks

I've heard debates about running it at the steering column. Some say it's ok, some say no. Personally, I'd just gop ahead and get a drill and make a hole just for the wire then pop in a grommet that comes in wiring kits.

Im curious about the steering column .. The wire has to run from behind the drivers side seat .. To below the steering column ?? I think that would get in the way .

Well, not really. You run wire under the carpet, and you obviously don't cross the thing over any steering components so it's not really in the way of anything. But like I said, to me it's easier and better to just make a hole.

Mine goes under the kick plate and up through the steering shaft boot. Been that way for 2 years now and it doesn't leak water and doesn't rub on anything. 2002 XLT 4x4 super cab.

My guess would be , that the 01 and 02 are relatively similar in mechanics and body structure ..

thx for every bodies input

To keep water out of the cab, create a drip point on the wire and you'll be fine. Make a low point that is lower than the entry of the grommet.
