Ive moved onto my next repair My rear way back rear shackles. They are rotted off on one side and on the other side half rotted bent and bad,

All bolts are scaling and are a flaky rusty mess. The part that bolts to the end of the leaf srping is still there but connects to nothing because its rotted and gone.. So How can i go about removing the remains of the shackles and installing new ones?

Is there anything that makes this easier.

Smokey the blue tipped wrench.

x2. Seriously, it's basically impossible to remove them nicely.

Torch them out or get a sawzall and chop away at the rest of the shackle/bolt. I used a pitman arm puller to shove the old bolt out of the spring eye. It's fun stuff.

^I actually didn't cut the shackle at all, that was all that was left by the time I noticed it... :dunno:

a torch is the best way, to get the bolt out of the spring eye, i heated the spring eye after i torched off the one end and put a air impact on the remaining other end and spun it out.
