Installing '98 2.5 alternator in '93 2.3

Was there a change in the '98 2.5 alternator that would prevent it from working in a '93 2.3?

I grabbed the '98 2.5 alternator from a salvage yard, since there weren't any '92 - '97's on the lot (which I believe are direct replacements), but it looks identical to the '93 2.3 version in my truck now.

Some auto chain websites (Auto Zone, Advance, etc...) list some of there brands as replacements for each other (same part numbers), while some of the brands have different part numbers, depending on if it's for the '93 or the '98.

Thanks... I'm CRAZY short on cash, and would hate for this to cause more damage!!!

i put a junkyard alternator in mine - cost $25.- - have no idea what year the truck was i got it out of but it fit and works fine...

As long as the mounts and connections are the same, it will work. Pulley size will affect the serpentine belt size and it might be a high(er) amperage, but it will work.

if not ive got an alternator from a 92 laying around the yard. $10 plus shipping it's urs.

The 92 thru 01 Rangers use a 95 amp alternator, same bolt pattern, will work fine. You can get a bit more info by going to the Tech Library and looking up Alternators.
