Saturday I replaced the OEM radio in my 2000 Ranger XLT with a touch screen Jensen VX7020 radio with navigation. Everything seemed to work fine except when plugging in my iPod in to USB it wasn't recognized so the system said no devise found. Everything else worked, Bluetooth found my phone and played music from it, Used Pandora through it and seemed to work fine. Sunday after picking up a new cable for the iPod thinking that might be the problem it still didn't see it. But an even bigger problem now surfaced, there is no sound coming from the speakers even though the sound was fine the day before. The only thing I can think of is something wrong with the Amplifier. Does anyone know what fuse is for it ? Can't find any info anywhere, just the Grn wire for the radio is for the amp which I'm 98.9% sure it's connected right. Any ideas ?

TIA

I think you at the least need to contact Jenson for their troubleshooting experts.

First your iPod issue.. When I got my Pioneer Double din way back it wouldn't recognize my wife's iPod but it saw mine no problem. Ended up having to reformat her iPod and update it before the head unit would recognize it.

For your sound issue. Did you check all your connections? Did you use a wiring harness or hardwire the headunit?

If sound was working and now is not check all your connections to make sure they didn't come undone.

Thanks for your reply, that was the first thing I did. Went to their website and sent an email to customer service. 3 days later and not one word one way or the other. Wont buy another Jensen because of it.

It is one of the original iPods, thought specs said all iPods would work with it but maybe I misread it. Used a harness to plug directly into the OEM connector. I'll check the connections this weekend, but why would the speaker wires be the only ones that came loose ?

Same as above

Thanks everyone

Finally got a reply from Jensen, only took 3 days. Their only suggestion was to hit the reset button to reset the system. :icon_surprised: I told them in the original email that I tried that several times and it didn't change anything.

So I wrote back and thanked them for replying 3 days after the fact and pointed out they must not have read my email since I stated I tried the reset button. Told them I will pull the system out and check the connections this weekend. They'll probably write back to tell me to check connections :icon_confused:

Update

I pulled the radio out and redid the wire connections, I now have sound. :icon_thumby:

I reset my iPod Mini and reloaded the music on it. The head unit still doesn't recognize it. Oh well, not that big of a deal, :icon_idea: I'll just load all my music on the phone and use that.

Thanks everyone for your help. :woot:

I do not like butt connectors the proper way is Solder Solder and more soldering when doing electrical connections.

Personally I would ditch any Jensen product and spend some extra money and get another quality head unit.

My personal preference is SONY. But that's just me. The Kenwood units with in dash GPS are some of the best but yes I know they are about twice the money you spent on the Jensen.

As your I pod problem if you have any "pirated" not downloaded from I tunes music on your classic the radio will sometimes have trouble playing it. I had the same problem with a Jensen tilt up GPS unit I had many years ago.

Also the quality of there units are just crap. My screen would not deploy 5/10 times I put the van in reverse and the GPS would not find me at all sitting on Interstate 8 in Yuma Arizona 95% of the time. Luckily I bought the unit from Crutchfield and there return and replace policy is unmatched by anyone.

As someone else suggested. Reformat the classic and reload all music in a different order if you have any questionable music on it. Sometimes moving some things around into different "playlist" solves the problem.

iPod still isn't being seen but my iPad works with the system so I have to think the iPod is just too old for modern electronic devices to see it.

I got this system not only for the price but does everything I need it to do. The better higher priced systems would do what I need too but have other bells and whistles I don't have a need for nor want.

In my 2014 Wrangler Rubicon I have been thru several head units over the past year. I started with the Factory Nav, swapped that to a Pioneer with the add on Nav unit. I decided to give the DNN 992 from kenwood a shot. I will say I love the Kenwood Navigation being Garmin but at the same time that radio is about the slowest booting thing I have ever seen. Load times bothered my wife as well as the layout ( she prefers Pioneer lay out) another issue was the think not staying IP connected as it is supposed to. I swapped that out to a Pioneer Nex Head unit and will say the new pioneers have it hands down. Now I understand the OP is not trying to drop a grand plus on a head unit but I would not recommend a Kenwood until they find a way to fix functions on units, at 1200+ for a head unit there is no reason features should not work.

I have the Original Pioneer AVH5600BHS installed in my Ranger now took a little mod to the radio hole for it to drop in but it was well worth the little work it took. Working on building a sub enclosure and will be dropping a Punch amp and MB Quart sub in the ranger at some point. (Wife has other plans for my days off) Already dropped Punch mids and highs in to replace factory speakers.
