Can a truck with no reverse pass inspection or will it show up on the computer diagnostic test? My neighbor says he knows a guy that will pass anything that will pass the comp test, bad tires, small cracks in windshield, etc. I was gonna take it to Auto Zone and have them scan the computer but I dont know if they use the same scans. The airbag light blinks also so I know I have to fix that first. I saw a thread on TRS that will help with that though, I think. I'm having problems finding it again though so I'll look around till I find it and remedy that problem. Any info on the reverse thing would be much appreciated though. I've been out of work for 4 months so I haven't had the money to fix the trans. Hopefully I'll be starting a new job in 2 or 3 weeks and then I'll be able to get the trans replaced or fixed. Till then I can only do silly cosmetic things. the neighbor that told me about the inspection backed into my truck and broke a taillight and that is why I posted the question last week about the new tails(he's replacing them, lol). Otherwise I'm stuck as the inspection is up at the end of march. Thanks Folks!

first off, do you mean the transmission wont go in reverse or the reverse lights dont work cause they're broken?

if you mean the lights, then here's my $.02.....when i worked at jiffy lube years back, we would only check the lights, turn signals, horn and brake lights. i dont think the reverse lights had to work. however the taillights couldnt be broken anywhere. they have tail light repair kits at auto parts stores

Assuming you mean it actually won't go into gear...I'm pretty sure it wouldn't pop up on the computer scan if it's a stick. Not sure on an automatic.

I will say, though, that I've never acquired an inspection sticker (which I've done in three different states) where they didn't pull it into their shop. Generally, shops aren't pull-through, and I'm guessing they might be a bit annoyed if they drive it in and can't back it out...

All the lights work. I just have no reverse. Trans or hopefully servo problem.

oh i see, i guess i just misread the first post, i dont think it will be a problem....dont know about NY tho

it could easily cause a transmission code and set the check engine light.

That's the thing, the check engine light is not on. It's only been on once since I lost reverse and that was because my girl forgot to put the gas cap back on after filling up. I guess I am gonna just take it in and see what happens. It is not due till the end of this month so once I take it in I'll let you folks know how everything went. Thanks for the help.
