On a M5OD you have to take the top plate off, get the 5th and reverse gears and slider out of the way, remove the center bearing plate, remove the front bearing plate, pull the output shaft back a little bit then you can get the input shaft out... To get the input shaft out, slide it to one side then the notched gear should clear the hole then pull out the hole
was just into my M5OD today... would be back together but decided to get a new 5th/reverse slider...
I think I got a new nut for my output shaft last time (didn't realize it was 10 years since I rebuilt it last, oddly just did it again last summer because of a bearing failure) but you "could" reuse it. Wouldn't hurt to get a new bearing for the input shaft but don't think I'd worry about replacing anything else unless you want to while you are there, replacing the bearings and brass is a slippery slope as some take a bit to get to... The counter shaft shouldn't even need to come out.Hi, name is Joe. I know this is an old post but I need to replace an input shaft in my M5R1 99 Ford Ranger 2WD 2.5. The tip is totally jacked up due to a failed pilot bearing. It has metal deposits on it and I’m certain it will only eat up another pilot bearing. It’s been years since I was in a box, but I’m confident in my abilities. Do I have replace any thing besides the Input shaft such as a Counter Shaft or Main Shaft nut. What do you recommend as a sealer for the Tail Section. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thanks Joe
Many thanks! I’m working on rigging the puller for Output Shaft bearing. Really appreciate you!I think I got a new nut for my output shaft last time (didn't realize it was 10 years since I rebuilt it last, oddly just did it again last summer because of a bearing failure) but you "could" reuse it. For the case halves I've just used Ultra Black or Ultra Grey silicone, plenty sufficient...
I put some other tips in your other thread too...
