i have a 96 ranger with the 3L and im preparing to put a 99 5L in and i was wondering if instead of switchin out my fuel pump, for now, if i can just use 97 explorer rails with the 99 injectors, im also puttin in a 97 computer to deal with PATS.

the reason you should replace your pump is because the 3.0 pump doesnt flow enough fuel to feed the bigger 5.0 engine. it has nothing to do with the fuel rails or injectors.

Kind of off track, but are you telling me that my 2.3 fuel pump doesn't have enough OMPH to feed my 5.0?

the 3.0 uses a 60LPH pump, which isnt good for anything over 200HP. a stock '99 5.0 produces 215HP...so fuel starvation will become a reality under high loads/RPM.

earlier 5.0s are well under 200HP...so it just depends on what your donor is.

i can only assume a 2.3 uses the same or smaller pump than a 3.0. a mustang fuel pump will replace the stock ranger pump if you need more flow.

i dont know if the 97 fuel rail will bolt to the 99 engine...you might just have to try it. i wouldnt want to try and convert my fuel system to returnless either...sounds like a pain.

the 3.0 pump wont have enough volumn to run the 5.0... it may run at an idle ok but wont be able to keep up with it

Alright, cool, thanks, ill run around to a of couple junkyards and see if i can find a pump out of a stang.
