Hi, and thanks for having me as a new guest to the forum. I am trying to find out why there are 2 very different injectors listed for my Ranger. It is a 2001 XLT with 4x4. It is a 3.0, VIN code U as in "you." My truck currently has the smaller diameter size (all plastic) injectors with the blue band at the bottom. The other injector listed for my truck has a much wider body with a stainless steel outer jacket. Can anyone tell me why they list 2 different parts, and which of the 2 is most recommended? Thanks!

One is flex fuel, one is gasoline only.

Yours is gasoline only.

I'm still confused. The 2 different styles of injectors are listed for my "GAS" engine with Engine Code U. So does this mean either type will work in my engine even though my engine currently has the thin, narrow, all plastic body injectors?

replace it with what came out. simple

flex fuel injectors can flow more because e85 fuel has to run richer than gasoline

if your truck isn't flex fuel then you don't need the bigger ones

I fully agree with you Brutus on replacing with what came out. But, if the larger diameter injectors work on my gas engine, it will save me at least $60 on a set of 6. I've found them on ebay, brand new Bosch injectors for $18 each. The other narrow ones are $28 each.

If anybody has successfully swapped out the narrow bodied injectors for the fat bodied ones, I'd be interested in the details. Thanks

Get the right injector for your vehicle. Flex fuel injectors will not work with a non-FF truck. Check out www.rockauto.com, you can get OE Ford injectors in about 3 days.

I'm not trying to swap GAS injectors for FLEX FUEL injectors. I'm considering swapping narrow bodied all plastic injectors for the fat bodied metal/plastic injectors. BOTH of these are listed for the 2001 3.0 GAS engine, VIN Code U as in Uncle. If you look up this truck in the Advance Auto website, and search for fuel injectors, you'll see what I'm talking about. So once again, if anyone has tried this and succeeded or failed, I would appreciate your input. Thanks

The different style injectors have different electrical connections. The wide body injectors WILL NOT work with your current harness if you currently have the "pencil style" injectors. You'll have to bite the bullitt, and buy ones that are identical to whats currently on your truck. They do make adaptors for the harness, but you'd spend more money on those than you'd save by buying the cheaper injectors.
