The console itself shouldn't be very difficult to install. The lamp out indicator module and harness may be another storie, if the supporting wireing isn't there. I took my console out and installed an Explorer console with the raisable armrest. I like it alot more. The lamp out indicator panel I relocated to the hole in my dash where the ash tray was. That took a little inginuity, but looks pretty good, although I really don't pay attention to it anyway. When it was on the console, I never looked down to see it, and wouldn't notice if a light was out or not.
As far as the low fuel light is concerned, I as a rule I never let it get below 1/4 tank before a fillup anyway (rules for living so far out in the sticks). And if I can't look down at my fuel gage and see I'm getting low, I probably deserved to run out anyway. By the time that light comes on, I'm already in trouble. (keep a gas can handy
It doesn't seem to me to be worth that much trouble to find and install the whole thing. I'd go with the Explorer center console for better functionality. The one I installed was red, and I have a tan interior. Before I installed it, (while it was dis-assembled) I coated the whole thing with black plasti- dip. (even the cloth part, which takes several brush-on coats to get a smooth surface) It turned out so well, I've toyed with the idea of coating my seats as well, to get a nice weather proofing. I'd rather find some vynle seat covers that fit well, but no luck so far, and this would be an affordable permanent alternative. Especially if someone's padding is good, but the existing surface condition just isn't to be desired.
