My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I plan on going to Buzzard Roost and Hurricane Creek on Saturday. Anybody that wants to join up is welcome. Buzzard Roost should be easy and takes us to a cliff overlooking the gorge that I-40 runs through just before getting to Tennessee. Those who want to do Hurricane creek, I recommend 4X4 only. Both will probably involve some mud, considering Fridays weather forecast. But Saturday is supposed to be a beautiful day. I have never been to either place. There are Youtube videos if you want to check them out.

We will meet between 10:00 and 10:30 on harmon Den Rd, between I-40 and the Pigeon River, just off exit 7. I’ll post more details tomorrow when I’m off work.

Sounds like a great time, and not horrendously far from me. But I'll be putting an engine in on Saturday :)

If you got it put in Friday night you could take it wheeling on Saturday :icon_idea:

LOL - even if it's 'in' on Saturday, there's no way I'll finish getting everything tightened up and convincing myself I haven't screwed -something- up that fast.

And then there's the question of just how long that hose is going to last...

Buzzard's Roost would be a bad place to fall from.

Informal.. so.. no 3 piece suits and calling each other Mr.?

Absolutely not.
No signing up necessary.
No roll call.
No name tags.

Just show up and we’ll ride.

Wish I could! Too far for a day trip unfortunately.

How close are you to the blue ridge parkway? When myself and the fiance leave the yearly round-up she really wants to drive down (or rather up) the blue ridge. She went as a kid and has always been super obsessed.

I think it would be cool to kinda explore off a little on our way up it, do a little 4x4ing to the top of some mountain for some sweet views or something. Know anywhere kinda like that?

The whole BRP is like that. I can get to the parkway near Asheville, NC in roughly an hour. About a week ago, I took my brother and we tried out some gravel roads from the parkway near Mt Mitchell. A couple weeks before that I was down by Cherokee. If there is a specific area in the western Carolinas or north Georgia that you want to visit, I could probably make some recommendations based on personal experience or from navigation apps and Googling that I have done. Over the years, I have driven just about every mile of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Awesome, doesn't sound like it'll be too hard to find a couple quick detours then!

We still gotta figure out how much time we want to take on the ride back to maine, and kinda plan our route around that a little bit. Gotta find the right mix of making good time and getting to stop and see the sights.

Being home by Wednesday would be nice.. but I suppose I could take another couple vacation days and more or less have a week long road trip.

Just a little more info.

As I mentioned, Buzzard Roost is pretty easy. You wouldn't want to go in a low-rider. But most any other Ranger, Bronco II, or Explorer will be fine. Third image is a screen shot of a description of of Hurricane Creek. 4x4, 31" tires or taller are strongly recommended. This is a medium rated forest service road with minimum maintenance.

Hope to see you there.
