Traxxas TRX4M High Trail Edition

I think I could run my fake go pro but I'd have it without the waterproof case. It's super light.
My rigs are 1/18 scale. I'll tow a trailer with another rig on it. So if I strap a gopro to the roll bar it might be a bit less capable on an angle, but it'll do ok for most stuff.

Here you can see the High Trail frame in the bottom left. There's no plastic parts anymore. All metal. Some steel, some aluminum, some brass. Bigger tires and metal rims with metal inner weights. Once it's built I'm going to weigh it and see how it compares to the stock spec sheet

Even went with longer 59mm metal shocks, metal servo mount, and metal shock towers. This thing is tricked out. 87T motor. Aluminum gearbox with Injora low range metal crawling gears. Everything is done to it that you can do. Except the battery mount is stock. But I'm getting a cnc machined aluminum one soon.

How much do you think a GoPro wieghs? I see tham all day long with go-pro mounts, on the ticky tok
and
What scale is he running?

18th scale.. so his Wheelbase is probably right around 6.5". A gopro IS small.. but its still a big chunk of mass for a rig of that size + weight, it would definitely hinder performance quite a bit.

I bet them tiktoks are on 10th scale rigs.. those usually have Wheelbases closer to a foot and weigh enough where a few ounce gopro wouldn't tip them over at the first incline. A real built up 10th scale rig can weigh close to 10lbs

87t motor AND low range gears? Thing must be super smooth...

I guess I'm used to my Knock-off Go Pro "Action Cam" its very lightweight.

It's hard to tell the scale on TikTok unless there is a human in the vdo. But I see everything from 1:64 to 1:10. A lot of them have cameras mounted, but I just assumed they were the "Go-Pro:" type. Maybe they could be using something smaller, IDk.

All that to say, it's a rabbit hole, for sure.

The FPV camera setups for RCs are suuuuper small and wouldn't affect performance much at all.

I'll try to get a picture of my gopro on my little crawler later today, I'm sure once you see both side by side you'll see what I mean lol.

Here's a link to the r/c compatible camera. They're actually pretty sweet. You guys have me kinda wanting one now. It looks to be about 1/8 the size of my KO gopro without the waterproof case on it.

Also, one workaround for using a gopro even with the case on it might be to use a trailer and mount it in that. Would also give a pretty fun perspective of the truck in action

I was kinda bummed that my second radio/receiver/ecm combo didn't arrive by yesterday for when my kids were here overnight. I really wanted to have 2 going at once. For now I have to swap the receiver/ecm back and forth. Also loving these 62mm tires. But last night I ordered a set of 68mm for the truck. Go big or go home right?

Not sure if they're still made, but about 20 years ago I bought a Ranger body, 1:10 or 1:12 scale IIRC.

Here's my gopro on my little rig.. springs can't even support it haha.

Mine IS a little smaller at 24th scale.. but still. I might actually splurge on some wider metal axles now that I've dug the thing out... well see If they're in stock or not lol 😆

Once I get wider axles on it it'll pretty much have the footprint of an 18th scale.. already stretched the Wheelbase a bit.

That's the thing eh. If you want to crawl, those shocks have to be set just right. Otherwise they just bottom out. I have a trailer for this and it really puts the rear shocks to the test. Love your crawler. They're a strong competitor. I just sent the morning putting low gears in the transmission, a new servo and mount, lights and adjusted my shocks.

I ended up getting another one (we call it the Pumpkin), a TRX4m Defender so the kids can drive with me. Man this is such a fun hobby.

And the indoor crawler course almost takes up the entire living room floor now.

Tonight I'm upgrading this buggy so it has tremendous flex. It could work out great or it could end up being cumbersome. Only one way to find out.
