I'm having trouble figuring out what the info on my axle is. I looked at the tag on the inspection cover but I don't know how to decipher it and its different from the "Ford Ranger Axle" page in the tech library.
The tag reads: S330A 1088 8J19

here are a couple pics for reference:

8.8 with 4.10 gears. The 4 is probably hidden under that bolt.

Alright, thanks man, I've been told that I shouldn't worry about changing the gearing to run 33s, what do you think?

I'd run the 33's and see how it is. I have 33's on mine with 4.10s and its not too bad. It does feel a little undergeared but it plays in 4-lo most of the time anyway.

If you have an auto then it shouldn't be too big a problem. 4:10's help too.

Actually the auto would be much easier to break if you're undergeared unless you're lugging the crap out of a manual all the time.

Also, to figure out my brakes, do i just measure them to figure out whether they are 9 or 10 inch?

can i just measure my rear drum brakes to determine their correct size?

i have always measured the pads width to get the size

I think you just measure the inside diameter of the drum. I may be wrong about this but I think all 28 spline 8.8s (like yours) and all 7.5s have 9" drums, and all 31 spline 8.8s have 10" drums.

my 7.5 has 10in drums. sorry for the type o i meant width of drum not pads. it has been a long day..

Like I said, as far as I know.
