Hi everyone!

Making so many fun discoveries with my '88 Ranger. Was messing around this afternoon and discovered that the air filter housing had significant cracks throughout. I ordered a new one and wrapped the old in duct tape for the time being, but also noticed the following.

1. No hoses coming from the heater core. I'd like to reconnect them, but I'm not sure where they're supposed to go. I believe there is a bypass right now, as there's no fluid in the engine bay.
2. Disconnected hose at bottom of filter housing. Is this exhaust?
3. Open leads on top of filter housing. Is there a sensor that should be connected here?

Ill take pics tomorrow after work.

Is there an opening on the bottom end of the engine by that intake hose mount in the second picture?
There was a severed hose on mine and I'm pretty sure I've got grit in my engine now.
I'm pretty sure thats a bypass operated by the vacuum hoses.

Great question I’ll have a closer look. There was a hose connected to the housing that seemed as though it was hose clamped to something in the past, but I couldn’t find an obvious (to me, at least) point of connection. Thanks for the thought!

That bottom hose the airbox hooks to, (2nd pic) is just the route for the engine to draw air in from the fender. It being unhooked just means its drawing in hotter underhood air. As long as your air filter is installed properly that being unhooked should not allow anything to pass into the actual intake.

The hester hose on the left (as youre looking at the firewall) runs to the intake by the T stat housing. The other one runs to the water pump

hose is your warm air pickup tube. Helps on cold mornings to get the truck to operating temps more quickly.

Ports on the top are for the blend door actuator.
