Hey, doing a explorer 5.0 into 1st gen ranger swap. I’m doing a SAS as well, I’m wondering if the oil filter relocation is a necessity because of frame clearance, or just the steering? If it’s the steering I don’t care because I’m reworking it.

If I had to guess at it, I’d say the problem would be that the steering box and the oil filter are trying to share the same space. It’s not a problem on the 98+ since those are rack and pinion. Frame width didn’t change, so it shouldn’t be that. But I’m pretty sure that the steering box could be a problem on the earlier trucks since it hangs about where the filter would land.
