In the middle of a seat swap

Guys I'm in the middle of swapping out the seats on my Bronco. I have the old 60-40 split bench unbolted and out of the vehicle. The issue I'm running into is the front track bolts. The slider wont go back far enough to get to the bolt....I can barely access it with a 10 mm wrench, getting about 1/8th turn each time. There should be a release or something somewhere that would allow the track to either slide apart or at least slide further back, right? I wasnt this stupid when I started the project, but I suddenly find myself retarded....any help?

Thanks, Ron

Can you get a crows foot on it? If you dont have any, look into a set, they get to places you couldnt imagine!!

Yeah, I can get one on there, but starting the bolt on the new seat is also a concern...seems like theres something I'm missing that will allow the track to slide back further.

I have done this job several times. I always just pull the seat release and the tracks go shooting the whole way back on their own. My problem has been getting at the back bolts because you have to hold the adjuster release and force the tracks forward. If you can't get it to by just pulling the handle, pull the handle and stomp on something until they go back far enough.

I have one side of the drivers track off, it slides forward and back about 4 inches is all....if it would slide back another inch or inch and a half I could easily get to those front (track to seat) bolt holes. Im about to get out the BFH

usually guys swap the whole lower bracket, not just the rail :icon_confused:

Thats what I'm doing, unbolting the tracks via 4 10mm bolts and re bolting to the new seats. The problem is the rail wont slide back far enought to get to the front 2 bolts on the drivers side.

Put one bolt back in the other side. Don't take them off left/right, take them off front/back or the tracks get stuck like that because they aren't held up even with each other and so the catch doesn't release right on one side.

Thanks guys, I finished up a while ago. I got the tracks unbolted and on the new seats, passenger side was fine, the drivers is what gave me problems. When I had the tracks off I measured the amount of forward and back slide adjustment on the tracks...it only moves 3 inches before it hits the stops inside the rail. Not much adjustment, I guess I just expected a little more (another inch and I could have got the bolts easily).

On some 1989-90 Bronco2's the drivers side track is a "double slider" like
the passenger side, but the drivers side double sliders have a small
restraining cable that blocks forward travel.

I make a practice of removing it.

I saw that thread on removing the cable, and hoped I had found the problem but mine are just regular tracks on the drivers side. I am going to keep an eye out for a passenger seat track though, it would be nice to have the same range of movement for the drivers seat. Thanks to everyone who replied, I appreciate it.

Actually you don't want another "passenger" side seat track.

The bolt pattern to mount it to the floor is different on either side.

what you want is the proper drivers side track and the recline latch
The "Recline latch" is different because it's got a toggle on the bottom
that actuates the second slider.

Most 1990 Bronco2's got them, as did most 1990-91 Supercabs and
1991-92 Explorer sports.

Amusingly the Drivers side track from any of those vehicles is a direct fit.

a 1992 Supercab has an additional reinforcement in
the floor where the front bolts go so the tracks from a 1992 S/C won't work
And the 1993 Explorers are also different

BUT due to production variances in some assembly plants I suggest if you
are out in a U-pull-it junkyard you trial fit any other body's seat tracks
against a bronco2 floor before you pay for them
