So i bought a $105 in tank pump for my 88 ford Bronco 2 2.9. It was the biggest pain in the ass to change. Anyway, i've ran my bronco below a 1/4 tank most of the time, and then 3 weeks later after some driving it sputters and basically has no power... so is my pump really out again?

i had this same exact problem...i got a year warranty on my old one so i just went back to autozone the other day...we will see how long this pump lasts

oh yea and now the truck runs like a raped ape with the new pump

Did you change your fuel filter?

at first i figured that it couldent be the pump because the truck would still run so i did change the filter and i did change the fuel pressure regulator...they both did not do any thing so i figured that the pump had a year warranty so i just changed it for the hell of it and come to find out that was the problem in the first place

Flush or replace the tank ? Maybe there is debris in the tank killing the pump

is there an external high pressure electric pump also on your bronco ?

Changed the filter plenty of times, i think i could of just ran it really low and overheated the in tank pump. And yes i have a high pressure pump and i hear that working

possibly a bad connection

did you replace the plug on top of the tank with a fresh one?

I had mine last about 8 months then quit. it was a bad connection.

I did a test on the plug to make sure and it worked just fine. I seperated the fuel lines and the in tank one wasn't pumping fuel, although when i pulled it from the tank it made noise... Maybe its just weak enough to not pump fuel

Ok I'm just gonna jump in here and toss some reference pics in here. Just because like 10 years ago I just HAPPENED to take pictures while I was doing a fuel pump swap on my 89 Ranger.

I thought communist dictator Hugo Chavez sold me some bad gas at one of his Shitgo stations cuz shortly after I got gas at the one in Manteno, IL my fuel pump went out. So I had like almost a full tank and I had to drop it, with the truck parked on friggin' ASPHALT so it was a pain in the *** trying not to spill gas on the asphalt. It was like dropping a transmission.

So anyway I replaced the fuel FILTER first, and it didn't work, still no gas coming out of the whatcha-ma-doogely in the injector rail. .... you know that thing I'm talking about, on a 2.9,... Schrader valve, I think it's called?

So I changed the fuel pump and the truck ran fine for like 2 or 3 days but then it ****ed up again. Same thing, no gas squirting out the doogely on the injector rail even while the geezer was turning the key on and off to cycle the pump.

Dropped the tank again, and this time I looked down into the tank after I removed that big plastic thing on the top. There were metal shavings in the bottom of the tank.

So I looked at the pump and for the life of me could not figure out how anything might've gotten into the pump cuz there's a screen. I bench-tested the pump by running jumper wires to it. Nothing.

Took it back for a replacement, and this time I dumped the gas out of the tank and somehow I cleaned all the metal shavings out. I don't remember cuz it was so long ago.

When I put it back on the truck I cross-threaded one of the stupid tank strap bolts where it screws into the tinnerman clip type thing but I haven't had another problem since.

Edit: I just noticed that the black wire is broken off where it attaches to the metal circle thingy at the top. I have no idea what I did about that. But the gauge sending unit works fine and always has. The pump is just the gold-looking cylinder-shaped thing.
