In tank fuel pump quit

I just replaced the tank and float in my '86. I pulled the bed off, twice. Once to replace the leaky tank (and straps. One strap bolted in from the top which would have been a real pain with the bed on) and to figure out the problem with the gauge (cracked float) and once to replace the float, and replace the muffler that rotted out.

I recommend pulling the bed.

I dunno where you get off Surrey, empty Ranger gas tank weighs about 10 pounds, dont need no jack to lift that, my widdo white doggie could lift that. Shop or no shop if I dont get firewood in Im gonna freeze to death this winter. And your Caravan aint got nothing to with my dirty old dilapidated 27 year old junk yard Ranger 4x4.

I will be getting wood with that Ranger by the end of next week cum hell or hi water, and anything that tries to stop me will be sorry if not in this life then in the next one.

Needed that setup to get it up into place and keep it there while I fought with the straps and bolts (as stated, was working alone.)

Besides, if you need to get firewood, isn't putting a bed in your tank counter-productive?

Im just trying to point out that its not that big a job, and all this talk of jury-rigging something to work temporarily seems silly if you can just outright fix it.

Also quick and dirty is to sawzall an access to the tank pickup . Only cheap a$$ out fits like Ford and GM fail to provide access. Guy working alone against nature has to cut corners. If you cut on 3 sides only, you can just bend the flap . Use a short blade or choke up . :D

This works too. I did this to pull a pump from an old B2 without dropping the tank (as obviously pulling the bed isn't even an option)

I used an angle grinder rather than a saws-all though, because the grinder has a much smaller depth of cut.

Heck, even AMC put an access plate on the Waggy. And my BMW's is under a plate in the trunk. The BMWs are 25 yr old daily drivers. Think Al Bundy's Dart, not the ultimate driving machine. That is my automotive background. So, I'm spoiled in some ways. But along the way, I've have used plenty of Sawzalls, hole saws, and such to gain access to stuff. :D

Garage, I wish! I'm getting soft in my old age. New Years '12, I put up the 12X 24 tent garage, my brother gave me in the side yard. Floored it with scrap ply wood Drove the Rat in, it took nearly a minute for the clutch to hook up. Then I cut in a man door and ran in a 50' extension cord and some work lights. I bought a roll of Gorilla Tape and patched the fabric as needed. I added a radio and a small bench. And that is where I could be found until nearly May. I fixed a lotta stuff, but I had to draw the line somewhere. That was with the bed and gas tank.

12x24 tent!? I Wish!

Im stuck with the uncovered triangle of space beside the carport, which is like a 20x20 triangle. Takes a 12-point turn through the carport just to get the truck into place/back out again lol

I think Im going to try to cover it sometime, but I dunno what I could actually fit there - Not enough room for a 10x20 garage, and a 10x10 easy up doesn't give me much dry space to work....
