hey guys ive been having some trouble with my 93 2.3 automatic truck. it starts and idles fine. the problem is when the truck is cold and i drop it in gear and start creeping along like granpa, the truck has a surge it in, it is all the gears, first second 3rd and overdrive. it only does it when i crack the throttle.
i have drove it with a fuel pressure gauge and it never falls below 38lbs, i put and air/fuel gauge in it(autometer) and it reads a touch rich, the truck does not puff black smoke. i had a friend with a timing light watch the ignition timing while the truck did it and he said that the timing was moving back and forth with a steady throttle. i setup a tach and it was doing the same with the timing, when the timing would get retarded the tach would lower then the timing would come back and the tach would move upwards.
the truck feels like it wants to go, but it is being held back. i checked the timing belt marks, and when i set the cam on its mark the crack is a little behind its notch. when i installed the timing belt about 2 months ago it was set dead perfect. i ran it for about an hour and it stayed in the same spot.
im really thinking that either the cam sensor, crank sensor or the timing belt is the issue. im not a master of the eec-v setup, but i know enough to get me hurt
i dont think the timing is supposed to be pulled away and advanced like that. it should be a gradual advance as the rpm's come up. im just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. also sorry about the long post.
