yes i know that a little 3.0L wont push very good mileage. but i was wondering what could i do to improve it. i know the "easy driver method already" and i do try forcing my auto to shift at 2200ish rpm.

i am going to get injector cleaner here shortly for it....it has a new filter on it.

would like different hubs help? or some other things like that?

i just carry me (all 165lbs.) my 2 bookbags for college, and little extras like jumper cables, some (3 rolls) of duck tape, um, a gallon of water, and some "cold" gear clothing.

Thank you guys/gals! :D

Make sure everything is in good shape and working right, and keep the engine in its powerband.

Forcing a 3.0 to shift low would likely make the mileage worse,
the 3.0 produces peak torque at 3000rpm.

Disragarding all the old government sponsored propaganda
about "jackrabbit starts" and the EPA's mileage testing methods
You want that engine to SPIN. accelerate HARD (but not wide open)
up to cruising speed then keep trying to back out of the throttle and
maintain speed.

MOST vehicles are actually geared too tall (to make them "perform"
in government mileage testing proceedures) to get best mileage in the real world.

And the 3.0 suffers particularly because of this... You might actually want to drive the truck in "D" instead of overdrive for a tank of gas and see what happens.

IF you do get better mileage then you know you need to regear for best mileage.

I might add, to leave a lot of room in fornt of you, anticipate red lights ahead and slow, but try to avoid stopping completely. REMEMBER you don't have to be first everywhere. And around town, the amount of time you "save" isn't worth it.

another thing i always pay attention to is tire pressure. on anything, low pressure leads to poor gas milage :)

i know about, the cali rolls, and all that stuff, yes i use it all. i have quite too much air pressure in my tires, im sure of that. um, i guess ill try the 3grand thing....never really thought that it would be out of the power band...ill try the driving in D too...but first i got to get it fixed.

Do you have a high flow intake or exhaust? Letting it breathe better is time tested way. Or does anybody know of those performance controller (I have never used one, but it is my understanding that they have an economy setting.)

Old plugs and wires, changing mine bumped my mileage back to where it should have been. Tonnue cover (sp) made a sizeable difference, too.

Editor's note: Since you asked it's "Tonneau" --AD

It's a silver cylinder looking thing that sits on top of the intake plenum.
this confussed me a bit? whats this for? i dont remember anyone mentioning this?

its running stock intake and exhaust, and right now, that is out of my price range ( damn you college expenses!) i already have a tonneau cover.

Try a can of Seafoam. It works wonders. I have used it several times.
