1994 Ford Ranger with a 2.3 won't run. just replaced the timing belt, and it ran fine but now when it gets warm it dies. If you start it when it's cold everything is fine but as it warms up it starts to run worse and worse until it dies then it won't start until it cools down. Cut the exhaust right after the header, fuel pressure is perfect but it won't run. I tried to pull the codes but the code reader isn't communicating with the computer or something like that. Any help here?

sounds like an issue with some sensor involved in closed loop operation, could be an oxygen sensor, MAF or a couple others, have you tried getting the codes by getting the check engine light to flash? that's pretty easy to do

Cut the exhaust right after the header,

Since you cut the exhaust, do you have any oxygen sensor connected at all? Since it runs fine cold, then dies as it warms up, I would say that's the likely culprit.

The 94,s had the O2 sensor in the header. It sounds like something in MAF,did you change anything thing there?Check the connections that you unhooked to change the belt.If it ran fine before,it has to be something you changed, did the belt break and you changed it?Check the crank sensor for a crack and the little filament in the MAF.

took the ICM off and had it tested. Tested bad, so hopefully that was my problem!

Was just going to say that.....
Thats is usually exactly what a bad ICM will do. It heats up and breaks contact inside the module shorting out ignition.

Well...put the new ICM on and tried to start it.....fired right up and ran great!!! Fifteen minutes later it died again...WTF!?!?

How ever unlikely it may seem , it IS possible to get a bad ICM for places like autozone right out of the box brand new.
You did use new dieletric grease right ?

Actually did you reset the codes by pulling the negative battery cable for a bit before starting her up? Did you remove the negative cable before changing the ICM ?

Yes on the dielectric grease. I reset the computer also. I took it back apart last night to replace the crank sensor and noticed some dings on the balancer (from the timing belt breaking) right where the crank sensor reads from. So I'm going to replace the balancer and the crank sensor and see what happens. Also going to have the ICM tested

Crank sensors can do that to although an ICM is usually the culprit.
