Last time I posted my truck had just died and I thought it was the timing. Everyone steered me away from that and said it was a slim chance the timing was off and to check the fuel pressure regulator. Well come to find out that the fpr was bad. Distributor cap was cracked and I replaced it. I changed the plugs, wires and rotor button also. Now I know its getting gas and spark but it still wont run. If I take the intake duct off it backfires through the throttle body. if I pump the gas I can keep it runing for a couple of seconds and then it dies and stinks like gas. What could it possibly be. I have no CEL And there are no codes. I unplugged the battery for a few min and it didnt make a diffrenc. Any Ideas? AlsoWhat is the firing order maybe I messed up the plug wires. I dont think I did but you never know. Thanks in advance.

Can you hear the fuel pump run when you first turn the key? I think the firing order is in the Tech Library

Yeah I let it cycle like 3 time before I even tried to fire it over. I was going to hook my fuel pressure gauge to the rail but it wont fit. but if I push in the tab on the rail fuel sprays out prety good.

Seem like there is plenty of pressure...if it fountianing up well. would be best if you could get a gauge on it.

also remove the little vacuum line on the rear of the FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator)...if fuel dribbles out....the FPR is bad...but if doesn't, it really doesn't rule it out as still faulty. Again, would be best if you could get a gauge on it.

DO you have plug wires on in correct rotation/location?? double check.
If wires are on right..then would suspect the TFI (aka ignition module), on the back side of the distributor, remove TFI and test.

while your snooping around with the TFI...check/recheck all your ground wires and connections.

firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6. #1 cylinder being on the front, passenger side and #4 being front, driver side.

sounds like you have 2 wires crossed.

I finally got it running. Its running like crap but its running. I started unplugging things one at a time till it ran. The thing that was killing it is up on the fire wall. I thought it was to the windshield wipers till I relized it had a vac line going in to it. So now my question is what is it. Im sure the fuel in my vac lines prolly killed it but I want to go buy a new one and have no idea what it is called.

Thank you for filling me in. I am going to buy one soon. hopefully. I got lots of power though. And shes buning gas like no other. thanks for all the help guys.

Why is there fuel in your vacuum lines? Check the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line for any fuel in it.

take it along to the parts store...it should have part number on it ...somewhere. Folks at the parts store can cross reference it so you can get the same part only new.

Agreed, you want to fix the original problem before you replace the MAP sensor. There was fuel in the vacuum line going to the sensor?

Yes the FPR went out and I had to replace it. After I replaced it this went out. Im guessing from the fuel in the Vac lines. I have cleared out all of the fuel and now I need to buy a map sensor. I already have one waiting for me at napa. I called them yesterday and its going to be another 47 dollars for a new one and then it should be good to go. I drove it to work today and it seems to run fine. just a little rich. I work 60 miles from home so It sseems to run alrite from what I can tell.

As long as the original problem is fixed first you should be safe replacing the MAP sensor without fear of it being ruined

Not to try and sway you if you already have your heart set on NAPA, but AutoZone was one for 52.99 with a 2 year warranty
