I'm pissed with a Dealer

Got it, much appreciated. I guess I will play with it tomorrow sometime. It was driving me mad that that stick would not stay put without placing a hand on it. Thanks again.:icon_thumby:

Yeah, mine just falls out of 4-hi as well. I'm not going to worry about it much right now though because I have to go into my t-case and do bearings soon. I'll worry about adjustments to the shifter when that is done.

Best of luck to you. I have to tear down one from my 88. It is still sitting out in the field with a snapped output shaft.:icon_twisted: Got the shaft and all, but seems like I never have enough time to do anything anymore.

Yeah, I have been putting mine off because I don't want the down time, but I have a spare transfer case that I could bolt in there so it could at least be driven.

I really should try adjusting it first though. I was told the case was rebuilt in 2006 or there abouts. The noise sounds like a bearing growl but only happens in 4-hi, not in 2 or low, so it may just be incomplete engagement.

Lets hope that it's just incomplete engagement.

This 88 I'm working on (first truck, now backup) had a terrible first owner who liked to ride the truck over tobacco ridges, run in ditches, etc. He also overheated the truck so bad the heads had pencil sized cracks in them.:icon_surprised: Me not knowing this at the time bought the truck...he said to me "it smokes a little" and handed me a basket of parts. I almost have everything fixed....

Seems like everything I own has been plagued with problems:icon_confused:

UPDATE:

Actually, there really isn't much of an adjustment on the 4x4 shifter. I have a similar issue with my 1354M. I'll forward you a PM conversation about the issue I had with AllanD.

THANK YOU! I just got finished and no lie, the 1 1/8" loose and the 9/16" loose and that plate can move a ton! That stick was so far out of adjustment it wasn't funny. As soon as I did according to the instructions...it is firm in place and you can feel each detent perfectly....OMG I am so relieved. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Here's to you, sir.
