so to today i was thinking hey id really love to bypass the whole paying for internet thing and the bs associated with a ISP so i googled "FREE INTERNET"

I was flat out slackjawed with what i stumbled across..

This has to be some cruel joke GOOGLE has played on us so check out these links!

GOOGLE TISP

TISP PRESS RELEASE

TISP INSTALL GUIDE

WTH RIGHT?? if this is for real this should be everywhere...:icon_confused:

it was an april fools joke ages ago.

yea looks like i should have looked up the wiki first..

i just saw the copyright at the bottom of the pages and figgured that it had to be one of there newer pranks

i pick up 3 unsecured wireless networks from my house. now that's about as close to "free" as you can get.

i don't use those though, i have my own, faster, secure connection.

+1 on the unsecured wireless, that's the closest you'll get to free.

When I was a kid we were a little too poor to afford internet, even back in the dial-up days. So I ended up with about 50 Juno accounts and a similar number of Netzero accounts. Ads everywhere but dammit it got me online and learning.

There are other ways to tap into free high speed internet but they're very complicated and highly illegal. Not gonna be sharing that on here, :)

man i dident have a computer till 98 or somewhere in there and we went a long time without internet..

I remember Netzero, used to love it. When I first got online, I think I was paying $60/mo for dialup. That was with the cost of a 2nd line added to keep my parents off my back. Then came netzero, and it was just as good, for free. The ads were annoying though, but easy enough to bypass by using a program to find the dial-in number and set it up as a regular connection. I think I was on their service for a good 2-3 years before they started charging $10/mo. Did the same thing with Juno when I moved and NZ wasn't available locally.

Then just a few years ago I was in a crappy little apartment above some businesses in the middle of town, and was lucky enough to have a few with unsecured wireless. For 2 years I had free 20down/5up mbit Roadrunner business class internet.

If Al and Tipper Gore get a divorce, I wonder which one will get the Internet???

What a quandary that is, we all know the internet is just a series of tubes, and that good ole al invented it..

I cannot understand how someone can utter such a naive statement!

Supposely, theres a new internet type coming out. Instead of Dail-Up, DSL, Cable, WiFi, or Fiber Optic. This new type uses the common electric outlet. Some time soon, an ISP will be able to use the electric company's network of power lines to give you the internet. Its already possible with a local home network. This way a user doesn't have to lay down Cat5 lines in their home for multiple PC's or create a WiFi network. For me, theres a use for every one. Because I use all three types of network (Cat5, WiFi, & Powerlines).

hell, i dont even know whos network im on right now (or everytime for that matter)

but hey! it works!
