Im looking for a 2001 Ford Ranger xlt double cab 2wd flareside bed/box for sale, Or a compatible one for sale.

I definitely feel in over my head.

Don’t feel overwhelmed.

Simply put:
Any 6’ Ranger bed will bolt on, excluding the 2019+. (You’ll need other stuff if you go to a non “step side” bed.)
Any “stepside” Ranger bed will 100% work and line up correctly.
You may need to reuse your tail light harness depending on the year.

What do you think of this bed i found its only 6 miles away from me. It has cracks in it but it looks straight unlike mine. I guess i could buy it and have the cracks repaired in the fiberglass. Idk im still thinking about it. They want 800$ for it. Does that sound fair or should i offer alot less. I can't see the bottom and i don't know whats beneath the bed liner. This bed is from a 2000 ranger mine is 2001 would i have any problems? from what i have been told i shouldn't.

I don't know if mine are good though. My whole bed is bent and bowed. But if they are i will do that.
I just bought this ranger so i don't know much about it yet i am learning from this website and from who i bought it from.

I'd probably be inclined to go buy a stack or two of thick assed washers that have an I.D a hair bigger than the diameter of the bed bolts... undo all the bed bolts and use the washers as shims between the frame & bed to level it out.. may save you quite a bit of money.

That was my worst fear, it was very nerve racking for a day
I had the truck checked out at my local mechanic and they said that it is all body and the frame is good. The frame isn't bent according to a mechanic i trust.

The Mechanic who did the conversion of the truck wouldn't have wasted there time on a bent frame truck. He said that the owner before him worked in heavy construction and overloaded the bed.

I don't know how they check for a bent frame though i am not a mechanic so i would say i am 99% sure the frame is good.

Your truck has been in a major rear end accident:

The broken fiberglass is where the rear bumper was crushed into the fender. Now, the bumper brackets are supposed to fail before the impact gets to the frame, but I'm quite nervous that you have frame damage.

Pictures of one of my Ranger frames:
1st picture isn't greatest as I have hitch on, but the point is the framing square sits flat against the frame from the back to where the frame curves up for the wheel arch.

2nd picture shows how the front of the frame should be flat as well

We also want to see if your box channels look like this or not

At local Pick n Pull here in Calgary, AB, there is the exact box you want - $183.99 Cdn. $800 should get you a like new box. I wouldn't give them 2 Benjamin's for that box (they did go to the effort to pull it which is worth something, but not much...)

p.s. you want to see the underside for damage and/or rust, paying particular attention to right at the wheel wells.

I've seen a lot of overloaded beds. Generally it shows as the bed floor being bowed down between the bed cross supports. That bed floor looks like it is bowing up which I don;t think would normally happen in that situation, but I suppose that a very heavy load could do it if only touching at the front and rear of the bed. It has dents dings and scrapes for sure, it just doesn;t look like a bed that has been heavily worked and overloaded.

Also the side shots of your truck... It may just be camera angles and the shape of the flareside bed, but the cab to bed gap looks bigger at top than bottom. Before spending the money on buying a replacement bed, I'd probably agree with doing some careful measuring of the frame itself, or taking it to a shop that does that kind of thing to be checked out. Save you a lot of heartache doing all of that work only to find that the frame is bent.

I had the truck inspected at world motors in Ontario ca and they told me the frame is fine and the mounts are fine. They told me the problem is all body not the frame. So you want me to have the truck inspected again… I was gonna go to ltw motorsports for a lift I might ask them to inspect the frame…cause you have me a little worried now. The conversion was done by a mechanic that has been a mechanic 35 years. I do not think they would convert a truck with frame damage. I am not mechanic I just bought the truck so I can’t look at much of anything myself. What do I ask world motors? I don’t know what they did to check the frame I would have to check the receipt or call them what questions do I ask them?

What do you mean by 'convert a truck'?

You don't need to be mechanic; you just need to use common sense and we're here to help you with where to look/interpret the pictures you supply us.

As @JoshT indicates, the fact that distance between cab and box doesn't appear to be constant is red flag to us. As is the damage to the back of the fenders.

It's either bent box or bent frame.​

And we need to see what is 'under the skin':

If the channels don't have nice straight sides/sit flat on the frame, then you have box issues​

If you put straight edge (doesn't matter what it is, just so long as it is straight) on the frame; does it sit flat.​

We need those couple additional pictures.

What part of California are you from? It's pretty big state (My company has plants in both LA and SF areas, that I can talk to locals about recommendations).

Go to a bodyshop. They're job all day long is to straighten shit out.. they'll have a lot more knowhow on how to measure for square than a parts changer at a regular garage would.

The place you took it did a general inspection. If there was any major frame damage they would have seen and I formed you, but if it was not obvious they may not have noticed. If frame damage is suspected, it really needs to be inspected by a shop that specializes in that, generally collision and body repair shopa even if they don't advertise the frame portion. They will have the right tools to check it as well as what the measurements should be.

I can't recommend anyone there (or here for that matter) but I'd start calling around collision repair places in your area, either they will do the work, or have a third party they can refer you to. If you are in California, there is a huge car culture there, start asking around and I'm sure you'll find someone soon.
