I'm gonna buy an EV

How about converting a Ranger to electric? Ford sells the Mustang crate motor for $4095. It's 281 hp. More than enough for a Ranger.

How much for the controller and battery pack?

I don't know. I came across this when looking up conversion kits. There are quite a few available over a wide variety of price ranges. I thought this one was kind of cool because you could potentially put a Mustang EV drivetrain in a Ranger. Ford is working on a program to make EV conversion kits. They have F100 truck converted for demonstration purposes.

They are sold out for now though and from what I understand you have to source batteries and controllers elsewhere.

If I had the time, space and another ranger, I would do it. I'd probably convert my Honda xr80 first.

I think it would be a fun project. At some point the cost will come down and we will see people doing conversions. As it is now I think it would probably cost $10K to do a thorough conversion and maintain a 200+ mile range. Also, 281 hp is a lot more than is needed. It would be nice to see a motor in the 150-200 hp range that isn't as expensive.

Bite your tongue. There is no such thing as too much horsepower (within reason and drivability, of course) LOL

That's what the accelerator pedal is for. Applying the proper amount of horsepower for the given task.

EVs have ALL their horsepower and torque at 1 RPM, instantly

So a 100HP EV will be alot quicker than any horsepower ICE that needs to get up to 4,500RPMs to get its "rated HP"

HP is really apples and oranges between EVs and ICE as far as comparisons

The Corvette Z06 specs 670HP at 8,400RPM
Yet Tesla Roadster S matches it at half the horsepower and quicker

For daily driver EV there really is no need for the higher HP specs, or for daily driver ICE either, but you would need TWICE the HP with ICE to get the same performance as EV, lol

So at 1 rpm you've got 240 HP? That doesn't sound right to me. The EV motor still requires varying levels of energy to produce its power from minimum to maximum. I agree that the almost instant torque does fair better for acceleration on EVs.

I didn't say anything about too much horsepower. I said 281 is more than is need. Most of us go to work and do road trips in our vehicles. 150 hp is adequate enough for drivability. There's no real need to pay for that extra 100+ horsepower when you aren't going to use it. A smaller motor will also weight less and increase driving range. A larger motor also has larger resistive and core losses that will decrease range.

Everything I own is a project. I need a not project lol.
Electric this or that crate swap sounds fun, although no thanks.

Pretty much open to anything non Tesla.
Not into the Leafs either.

I just gotta commute to work and back. With folding seats to lay stuff flat . And run the air conditioner during summer lunch breaks at crappy locations. It would be nice if it wasn't completely soccer mom or whatever the male version is.

Any suggestions? So far I'm at post recall Bolt, or Kia EV6GT when released.

281 Electric HP is the same as 550+ ICE HP

So yes you could use it to run to the store to get milk, or head to the farm to get the whole cow, or a few :)

Electric motors have their maximum torque from 1 RPM to about 2,500rpm, doesn't change, just a flat line no curve, then starts to drop above 3,000 or so

He wants a plugin EV(PHEV) or straight EV, since he already has solar panels pumping out 5.7kWh
Maverick doesn't have a plugin model just a hybrid

There’s a plug in the bed... that’s close enough, right??

I would consider the F150 Lighting if they were actually available.
