You just need a 30amp circuit to get 25 mile per hour recharge, most electric companies also offer lower electrical rates at night thru 6am as well

An EV charger can be shared with electric dryer or electric stove/oven circuit, which usually have 30 or 40amp circuits
They make "automatic" switches so if the dryer is needed(activated) or the stove/oven, it will automatically switch off the EV charger until clothes are dried or dinner is cooked then charger starts back up again
Or you can put in a manual switch

Im considering a maverick. Not the hybrid though. Ohio has a $300 added registration charge yearly with your license tag renewal for ev’s or hybrids. I want a awd anyways. with tow pkg. Think my build & price was $26K. Just want a xl awd with tow pkg. Dont even want alloys, steel wheels will do. Im sure I can add cruise control later. The bright blue is the color im going for. Im not thrilled about it being a crew cab but nothing I can do about that.

I'm not opposed to an EV... but I feel there are many more options coming to market soon. So I will wait and see what comes in the next couple years.

I just wish the wife would have got her order in for a hybrid maverick before they closed the order banks

Eddo, I just noticed you're in California, doesn't California sometimes have rolling blackouts during the summer when a lot of people run their a/c? If the grid won't handle a/c units, how is it going to handle the load when a bunch of people try to charge their electric cars? If the juice is off and you can't charge it up to get to work, is that an acceptable reason with your employer? If you must own something electric, a hybrid sounds like a better choice. Or maybe you could graft a generator onto a bike frame and pedal for a few hours when you need a charge.

I get the feeling it is the former.

Hybrid is the best of both and the worst of both
You get unlimited range of ICE and electric boost in MPG and power

You have to change the oil, spark plugs, wires, belts, ect.....
You have to change battery packs

EVs usually have a kilowatt hour(kWh) rating, and the battery pack has a kWh storage rating
If an EV has a 3mile/kWh rating and battery pack has 80kWh capacity then "in theory" you could go 240 miles on a full charge, 3 x 80 = 240, but there are other electrical usages in any vehicle, so................

Teslas are rated at 2.5mile/kWh
Leaf is rated as 5mile/kWh<<< impressive, but have seen 4mile/kWh which is still pretty good

kWh is also how electric companies sell electricity so..........the math is simple, on cost to recharge, say an 80kWh battery pack, and to estimate how many kWh were used that day so how many kWh it will take to "fill it back up"

Solar panels/chargers also have a kWh rating, if you have a 10kWh solar system then it would take 8 hours to charge up a drained 80kWh battery fully in full sun light
And/Or you would need another battery pack to store the kWh during the day to recharge EV at night
Battery packs are not cheap

Again its just math, to see what you need

Or you could setup the 10kWh solar system to power home devices(frig/freezers) while you are away during the day, when electricity is usually higher priced, so saving the electrical cost and then use electrical power to charge EV at night when power is cheaper
No extra battery pack needed

There are a few EVs coming out with almost every surface on the vehicle covered with solar panels, and nice looking, well for what they are, lol
Can't even imagine what insurance companies will charge for coverage on these, a "fender bender" could cost ALOT to repair
And the inconvenience of not using covered parking or "parking in the shade" to keep vehicle cooler

I was gonna car shop, but the bombardment of time burglars, energy vampires, and social obligations has already consumed my entire weekend. I already can't wait to go back to work. I guess it will be in the F150 or Ranger again. Maybe I'll get wild and buy a car online. I have been dreading spending 6 hours to 3 days at the dealer.
