Im Back!! and motivated

Hey talking about your dads toys, Are you guys racing in the utv series like out at grinding stone and Firebird? Have a friend that keep trying to get me out there to watch a few races.

nope, sold the rhino about three months ago and i wouldnt wanna race that thing again anyhow. my buddy likes doin some of that in his rzr and occasionally we make it out there to race. i may race my new rzr in one but dunno yet. gotta know if mine will be legal

its his daily driver. haha, he is building an older ranger as a race truck. He was up at NAU for a year, so the ranger was put on hold.

so if youre on a ranger website, why is your avatar a pic of a chevy haha

had to ask, it was bugging me for a while.

haha its cause she is my pride and joy. im a chevy guy at heart but even i know that in a midsize, you cant beat the price of building a ranger into a full race truck. Plus it makes me kinda stand out in this crowd of ranger owners :D

close! i am building a full race desert ranger with the old school style look and have learned alot through this site on the rangers in general. I was in college for 4 years at NAU and i bought the ranger the last year i was in school. then one month into school i brought it down to pheoinx (200 miles away) to start buildin it. I wound up stayin in flagstaff another year after i graduated due to no jobs in phoenix but two months ago i landed this one and now im ten min away from the ranger and have more cash to spend on her :icon_bounceblue:. i t was all i could do while i was in flag to keep the bills paid with the job i had and the ranger almost got sold twice but i held onto her. So now she will finally start moving along again!

Yay! all the steering parts and my shackle bushings are in! One thing i really like that dave does is he uses the 7/8 heim, in doin this with the size tie rods he uses you tap threads directly into the chomoly tie rods instead of welding in a bung and having to use a smaller hiem like a 3/4. Hopefully if extermination of the termites at the building i work at doesnt take all weekend ill have time to tear into the ranger! :yahoo:

Hey So when do you want to start working on this bad boy?

possibly sunday, depends on how long it takes to drill and spray the building for termites. if not, the three day weekend is lookin real good :D

I would say I would come by and help but I have to pack and get ready for serbia on monday morning. But I will be back in town the following week so I should be able to help you then.

Dave or anyone else who has done this:

Have you experienced any massive amounts of noise from the engine crossmember after trimming it? I did it on mine and you can hear the truck from a mile away(creeking). I am going to weld the crossmember and hope that solves the noise, but has it ever happened before or is my truck "special"?

edit: i am running unequal length beams so my pivots are still inside of the crossmember

awsome, cant wait to finally see those beams installed

haha well njust scroll down a bit from here and you will see them on! :D

This is the first ive ever heard of something like this. why did you trim it to begin with?

Well here are the beams/ radius arms and brackets all on the truck. i also busted the d44 knuckles off the old d44 beams so they will be ready to be put on the truck (not in any pics for today). I still need to get the steering all together but am waitin on a stock pitman arm from a fellow member. I also need to pick up a few more bolts and washers to get everything put back together (missing some bolts for the radus arm brackets and need bolts for the radius-to-beam connection) but wont be able to do that till tuesday since copperstate will be closed tomorrow.

One thing i did notice when settin up the radius arm brackets though dave. was that when i set the passenger side beam to 1/4-3/8" away from the driver side beam bracket bolt, then measured from the body mount rivet to the center radius-to-beam connecting bolt to set up the the driver side. The driver side had to be pulled back so far that the driver side beam would hit the bolt for the passenger side beam bolt on the beam to achieve the same measurement for the passenger side. So i jsut moved it a 1/2" forward to clear the bolt. Shouldnt hurt anything should it? also, without moving it forward, my wheel base on the driver side was 114" and the passenger was 115".
