My transfer case was going bad and then the low range completly died so I found a used one from a guy locally and got a good deal. Like an idiot I forgot to check the fluid when I got it in because I was so excited to try it. I drove it about 2 miles down the road put some firewood in the back and came home (in two wheel drive) I put it in 4x4 and low range in the driveway only to see that it worked. I then realized I didnt check the fluid and had to put a little over a quart in it (so basically it had nothing but it was a littlewet with oil inside when I stuck my finger in the hole) the manual says it takes 1.25 quarts. It drives fine and everything seems to work now but I was just wondering how much damage I actually did?

By the way I was a member on here for a while but it wouldnt let me log in so I had to make a new account.

If it was prior to Aug. '07 you were logged in last time, it was because of a lost forum database (everyone had to re-register).

As for your T-case, unless it's making noises now, I wouldn't worry about it. It would probably take 5-10 miles of running with it dry before it'd start self-destructing.

a total of four miles at relatively low speeds in 2wd?

Two miles twice with a rest in between?

Change the fluid, if there are no chunks and a minimal ammount of fuzz
don't worry about it.

well I went and checked it on google maps and actually it was 3 miles each way so a total of 6 miles. I probably didnt get over 45 miles per hour. I've driven truck since then more and there seems to be no problems, no funny noise or vibration.

thank God for this thread......I just went outside and checked mine and almost added a whole quart......

well since it holds 1.25 then you at least had some so your prob better off than I would have been if I had kept running mine
