Illumination/Dimmer wire question

So I just ordered a radio from Crutchfield and it came with a wiring harness but I am always confused about the dimmer wire. Is there a wire coming from factory harness that is labeled "dimmer"? If not, where do I wire that into? I understand the 12v constant and the 12v switched, but not illumination and dimmer wires.

btw I have 94 b2300.

Thanks in advance.

I ignore the dimmer wire. Nothing will be rendered non-functional by not hooking it up. It is for dimming the lights on the radio face, and since I don't ever take my dash lights below full bright I don't care if it works.

I don't actually know which wire, if any it is intended to be hooked up to on the vehicle.

Yeah, that is usually what I end up doing to but it stirs up my OCD :)

Check out this site for your dimmer wire in the dash:

As for dimmer wire on the stereo here's the deal with that. Some radios come with a dimmer wire and others don't. And some wiring kits (Metra, Scosche) come with a dimmer and some don't. If the new head unit doesn't have a dimmer wire then it's all no bueno. But if it does then you need to see if your wiring kit has a dimmer wire. If it doesn't and you definitely want to use it then you'll have to find your dimmer wire in the stock wiring harness, cut it at the connector and wire it directly to the wire on your radio. But, if your wiring kit has a dimmer wire then it should all just be plug a play.

Look here for radio wiring in your 1994: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/radio_wiring_diagrams.shtml

Illumination wires are the dimmer wires, connected to the dash lights and ??, all on trucks dimmer control

As said above, some 3rd party radios simply don't have dimmable LEDs these often have a menu so you can select a different brightness for the display that way
