Illegal?!?!

The only law we have here deals with covers over the license plates. People actually don't know that it's illegal and we hardly enforce it unless it's obvious someone is trying to hide it. I work in LE and when someone's tag is blocked for whatever reason, I just call it in after I get their paperwork. As far as the hitches go, someone stated they cause more damage in a rear end collision, is exactly why mine stays in 24-7.I got hit from behind by a DUI subject driving an old caprice with NO inusrance. Thats hitch saved my truck as it only bent the receiver.

My grandfather use to have a 1967 Chrysler Newport with a 440 that believe it or not he used to pull his boat up to the lakes and even to Florida (from Ohio). This was back in the late 80's cause gas would kill someone that tried to do that now. Anyway they didn't make a receiver that would work on this car back then so he had someone weld a hitch to the frame. I remember once we were sitting in the drivethru at McDonald's and some dumbass ran into the rearend of the Newport doing 15-20. Didn't damage the Newport's chrome bumbers but that hitch f'ed up the other car, actually penetrated the front and got hooked in/behind the radiator. The guy even had the nerve to try to back away and flee but after two or three attempts to back his car off of the hitch, he gave up cause it was stuck. Came to find out the dude was wasted. The drive thru person called the cops because I guess he saw it happen and when they got to the sceen they took the guy into custody and asked grandpa if he wanted to press charges for the accident (since there was no damage to the car or injurys) and no lie his response was "Hell yeah I want to press charges, he scratched my ball." To this day that is one of my fondest memories of him.

A kid I went to college with rear ended someone that was all but stopped in some really thick fog. Supposedly the guy didn't know he had been rear ended and tried to take off, but my classmates Blazer was hung up on his receiver and he still had the brakes locked up. He made the tires on the Blazer squal a couple times, but quickly gave up.

Didn't someone from Arizona just post something about getting pulled over because his ball hitch on the bumper was blocking the plate? That's all getting a little bit silly.
Dave

the ball hitch?

Frankly I'd tell the cop to get ****ed.

As for the tailgate?
In PA it's technically illegal to run with it either down or physically removed

Why?
The vehicle is designed to have that tailgage there in the event of a collision.

The Mythbusters test was "inconclusive" because their lawyers wouldn't let them drive fast enough to REALLY show the difference, but "up" is better
because there is a recirculating "Ball" of air that actually reduced drage over letting the air flow through.

Thats a great story man thanks for sharing:headbang:

I would not buy a truck that was that rusted, or just make it hot with a torch/ grind and replace.

Well that may be down south, here your lucky to find a truck that isn't rusting underneath from road salt. I bought my truck and found out that my hitch is rusted in the receiver, sure my frame is rusty but its just the way it is.

Vehicles pretty much don't rust much here if all you do is drive them on the street. And I've never seen a hitch rusted into the receiver, but it's not unbelievable or anything.

In Michigan it's illegal to have any tint whatsoever on the front door side windows.

Really? Here in NC if you own a pickup truck or an SUV you can literally spray paint your windows black. The only windows that are restricted to 35% tint is the windshield and driver/passenger window. Different laws for passenger cars though. I'll look through my book and post up tomorrow.

i leave a drawbar of some sort in my receiver all the time just in case i get rear-ended. in the winter its usually my pintle hook. its the best thing to recover another vechile with and stands to do the most damage. im surprized they never say anything about 3rd brake lights. mine was took off when the cap was put on and the one inside the cap door was in my way so it got tossed. i ve sprayed my plates with clearcoat so they wont reflect ligt at night. look normal in the day.

If you don't consider frame damage... damage. The bumper is designed to absorb the impact, your hitch gives it ALL to the frame.

well, remember in these tough economic times, "revenue generation" comes into play. if they can ticket you for something, they most possibly will. no matter how retarded the reasoning. it floors me when they brodcast that seatbelt promotin commercial- "cops write tickets to save lives" bull! i doubt most really give a rats ass, its all about generating revenue.
