Ignition timing

Lots of info on ignition timing out there, My 1988 2.0 calls for 6 D BTC. OK. I only have a 3 wire connector to distributor and manifold vac advance.

My assumptions.......This is measured at idle?...................The vacuum line to the distributor is removed and pluged?..............................and my light should strobe on the 6 BTC at the damper pully mark?

Are my assumptions corrrect?.................and,, What would the advance be if the vacuum line was attached and given that the vaccum is constant at idle why is'nt the specification given the simpler and more direct way with the hose on? Thanks

Your assumptions are correct. The reason it's done with the hose disconnected is because any number of things can affect the vacuum (leaks etc.) which would make accurate setting impossible.
