Ignition timing marks

OK, I have 1983 Ranger 2.8. The timing marks on the crank pulley start with a large line and a "0" then some small graduations and another large line and a "1.". Then some more small graduations and a "20". Is the 1. s'posed to be representative of 10 deg? And the 20, 20 deg. It is s'posed to be timed 10 degrees btdc. I timed it to the 1. and seems to start harder then it should. Seems to be a little low on power too.

Any help would be great!

Without looking, yes the "1" is probably the 10 degree mark.
To set your timing, you must first disconnect the single wire connector that comes out of the TFI at the distributor and goes into the wire bundle with the others. A manual is very clear on this.

w/engine warmed up,pull the spout connector from tfi module,set timimg to 10btdc,shut off,reconnect spout connector.from tag under the hood of my 83 2.8L.glad u asked about timming marks,i was too embarrased to ask.

Go ahead and ask. You aren't born knowing everything and many others are here to learn as well as inform.

I do recommend repair manuals as the best source, but many here are willing to help as long as the answer doesn't take too much time - in my case anyway.

I've been working on cars since about 1960 so I've seen a bit more than the average under 30 person out there.

thanks,have the first tm,but it was printed in 82 and listed as 83 and doesn't cover 2.8L or the 5-speed manual.working on the 84 manuals.my timing marks go o,1/1,2/2.i assumed 1/1 =10 degrees.runs pretty good.the spout is another story,still working it.
