Ignition Switch

Hey Guys,

My ignition switch seems like it's worn out. If I turn it "back" for the accessory position, I've got to jiggle it around for the radio to come on. Sometimes my turn signals don't work and if I CAREFULLY jiggle the key (I've turned off the engine a couple of times), they start working. I haven't pulled anything apart yet to try putting tuner cleaner or the like on it, but what I wanted to know is if this is the right part to buy: MOTORCRAFT Part # SW2474 {#F29A11572DA, F29Z11572D}. It's the listing at RockAuto, but it just doesn't look right to me. It just looks like a bunch of contacts, but the switch has to have some kind of slider contacts right? Thanks for the help!

that picture looks like part of it, but it ain't a great view. go to the JY and get a couple out of assorted rangers/bronco's, learn to take them apart and clean them. Generally what happens is that the assembly tangs get wobbily and the arcing over the years hides the contact points. careful reassembly, cleaning, and whacking the tangs back usually fixes it. I don't recall any suprises or springs popping out unexpectedly.

Should be two TORX screws, perhaps security style holding on the assy to the steering column. Careful with the plastic, after 20 + years it is gone really fragile.

Yeah - I know about the fragile plastic. I was amor-all'ing the dash and broke out a couple of chunks of dash this weekend. 3 years away from being registered as an antique!!!
