So, on my 1983 Ranger 2.8, the ''rack'' on the rack and pinion that actuates the ignition switch broke. A trip to the junk yard yielded nothing. I may have a good one on a parts truck, but there is no key to unlock and remove the cylinder lock. Any ideas? Does anyone know if Ford still services that part?

No other answers - so here I go. The switch (as a part) has two rivets that have to be drilled out once you get to it. I'm on my second replacement after the Ford part lasted about 20 years.
I don't know about the key lock, but have heard that a dent puller screwed into the key slot will pull it out.
You might try YouTube to see if anyone has a how to steal a car video.

OK, so I went to the Ford Dealer and he said that the part, the actuator rod, is no longer serviced. They are able to ''network'' and find out who has the part in NOS lots. So they found a guy who bought up the supply and sells them. I am going to get two of them:yahoo:

So I got the ignition switch actuating rod and installed it and put it all back together and all is good in the snack bar now. I bought two of the actuating rods, since Ford no longer provides them:icon_welder:
