Anyone put a new ignition switch in an 84 B II lately?? I gotta put one in mine before it won't run anymore..

Its super easy as long as you have the key.

All you do is turn the key to run. Look for a hole in the steering column under were the lock cylinder is.
Get a long rod and push it in the hole and pull the cylinder out

Thanks for the tip, it sounds easy, and I don't have to remove the steering wheel ??

Nope, its like a 30 sec job if is its not stuck. i have had a few that want to stick

Well, I got the switch put in but it still acts up. Sometimes i have to hot wire it to get it startsd and sometimes The gauges dont work until you wiggle the key

Did you change the key lock or the ignition switch which is on the column? Sounds like the column mounted switch is loose/bad.

I changed the key lock. I guess the device the key lock slides into is the actual ignition switch? Wonder where I would find one ? and I'll bet its pricey..

on an 86 it was cheap. 20 something if I am remembering correctly? Still not overly difficult to change, but you do need to take apart the column coverings (Including the steering wheel). The screws holding it onto the column were a security screw (once again, if I am remembering correctly).

You will figure it out. It is mostly self-explanatory.

On my 92 Ranger it was not necessary to remove the steering wheel to change the switch. The screws attaching the switch to the column could be one of several types. Mine had the torx type with an anti-tamper pin in the middle preventing a regular torx from doing the job but I have the torx with the whole in the tip so they work on the anti-tamper torx screws. Those switches require adjustment, I made sure that when the switch engaged the accesory position then it worked in all positions. Once it's set tighten the screws.

Cool, I'll try and find that thing, maybe its loose, truck won't start at all now unless I hot wire it..

Thanks to all of you for your help. Found the starter switch at AdvanceAuto today, installed it with the help of an easy-out and a drill and it works great.

Well I thought it was fixed. After I got out of church sunday it wouldnt start. i ran a new wire from ignition to solonoid and so far so good
