I have a '91 Ranger STX. I got the truck for nothing from a friend, for putting a tranny in his '91 Ranger XLT. The truck was in pretty rough conditioin when I got it (3 different size bald tires, transfer case shift motor not working, completely worn out brakes all the way around, hard brake line from RABS to rear had hole, driver front caliper was leaking horribly, driver door handle broken off, headliner falling down, hood latch handle broken, the list goes on and on). Anyways one of the problems is at one point of time the ignition locked up, and he broke the column to the point where a new lock cylinder can't be put in. There is a little piece with gear teeth on it that engages a rack in the column that I put a screwdriver in to start it. I would like to bypass the igniton and put in two toggle switches and push button for start (ACC/RUN/START). I don't have a problem wiring it, I just was wondering if anyone knew what wires are for what. Or, if anyone has done anything similar?

I can't be much help with the wires, I don't have the diagrams, but there are not that many wires so it should not take long to sort out by probing them.
What are you planning to do about the steering lock? it sounds like it might still be working.

I can currently turn the ignition with a screwdriver, it is just a pain because the piece that I put the screwdriver in falls out all the time and gets stuck in the dash. I am going to leave the column in the unlocked position, and wire around the ignition switch so that I can turn it on with a toggle switch and start it with a pushbutton.
