are you talking about the key lock cylinder? if so you could try to
1 lubricate it (using tri flow or other NON petroleum based lubricants and NO graphite).
2 take a small screwdriver and put it through hole on key while key is in ign put A LITTLE tension on key in the direction you want it to turn then smack key with screwdriver handle.
3 if above fail drill it.

in all cases i would have a replacement . one other note you could get new ign keyed to same key you are using before you install it

thanks for the info, when you say drill it are you talking about the lock cylinder pin?

Have you tried moving the steering wheel to get it out of the locked position?

I've had mine not want to turn because the steering wheel lock had stress on it preventing the key from turning.

Wiggled the steering wheel in both directions as much as it would go.

Must of been enough because that did the trick.

cylinder NOT pin drill where key goes just far enough to turn it

but like i said go get a new one and have it rekeyed to your old key before you do anything and then replace lock cyl in any case....

Like Ray says make sure there is no tension on the steering wheel lock, try turning the wheel one way or another and see if that allows the key to turn. I've experienced this myself with our 99 Ranger.

If you have an automatic trans there usually is some ignition key lockout device that only allows it off or to be turned when in park.

Lastly, with my BII I have an odd problem. On occasion the key gets slightly out of sync from the flanges/bosses (don't know what you call them, but the chrome plated thing that the key is nestled between that you turn with your fingers instead of putting pressure on the key). It won't turn at all when this happens. If I look close I can see a slight angle difference. If I rotate the flanges back towards off they will be aligned and I can rotate the switch fine after that. But this is on a early vehicle. If yours is a 98 I am guessing you got a fairly large key and it is a different system entirely.

your b2 is likely on the 5 cut system and uses pins 98 or 99 is either 8 cut or 10 cut system which uses wafers to line up a side bar. side bar can be drilled and will also defeat the lock but drilling has to be more precise and you have to know just where side bar is to drill it..
