I bought a 2002 Ranger that had a bad motor and planned on rebuilding it. The only key that they gave me when I bought it was a regular (non chip) key but it worked and the truck started. I recently found a 2003 with a good motor but damage to the cab and front fenders from a slow roll over and bought it.
I just finished the motor swap but now the 2002 will not start and the THEFT light is flashing. I have heard that if the battery is disconnected for a certain amount of time that you need the chip key start it again.
The 2003 came with a chip key so I am wondering if I can just change the ignition and use the key from the 2003 or ?????
Any suggestions before I go to Ford? (I read that these are expensive to replace)
Thanks
