Ignition/KeyCylinder Issues

Hey guys,

Recently I have been able to get in my 1996 Mazda B2300 and turn my ignition/key switch and start the truck without the key in the ignition.

Also, when I open my drivers side door the truck will beep at me as if my key is still in the ignition when it is not.

Is the solution just to replace the keyed ignition cylinder, or would there be more that I would have to replace?

Yes, cylinder needs to be replaced, not hard to do.

You can take the new cylinder to a locksmith first and have it "re-keyed" to match your current keys so you don't have two different keys for door and ignition.

Sounds like the tumblers are getting stuck. You can try gooping the key up with some white lithium grease and working it a bunch of times.

just remove and take to a locksmith to get it repaired.....

instead of gooping it up with white lithium try a teflon based lubricant like tri flow (it doesn't collect dust and dirt like grease or oil)

You could do that as well. The cylinder repair kits we get from Ford come with white lith. I usually use a silicone or teflon spray if I think something is sticking, but that is just a get it out the door kind of thing since I don't get paid for those deals.

i work for a locksmith and we get locks from cars all the time where all the grease has hardened and collected alot of dust (dust in Arizona who knew):icon_surprised: we use tri flow which after it dries it leaves a coating of teflon and the locks work very smooth just my 2 cents
