My credo
Credo?
It might as well be now.

All points pretty much lead me to here, so here I am.

Call me Bampity, it's not my real name but I like it.
I've been pretty much a "car guy"(as in 'no trucks') for the longest.
This past winter along the west coast of Lake Michigan found me hunting down
a "4x4 vehicle that can haul a few things." Moving, relocating and looking for drivers or renting trucks was getting quite tiresome. So began my search through the history of automobiles that fit my needs and descriptions. There had to be a few details, requirements, so to speak, to meet my expectations of an appropriate vehicle.

1. American Made
2. Pre-1996
3. 4x4
4. Standard Transmission

Based on my ever stringent criteria, options were fruitful so I added "affordable" after looking around a bit. Chevys were ok. I'd never own a Jeep. Dodge...
Then I considered my daily driver, a 1979 Lincoln Continental.
Why not a Ford? "The work horse and the night out." Why not? Makes sense. Sounds good.

Reading up on wikipedia, filtering through listings online, I found her.
1987 Ford Ranger 4x4 manual 5 speed good condition 1,200 bucks.
Sweet. Sold. Damn.
Ok. Its still cold out. I'm still inside. I'm still online. Keep looking.
They're getting pretty hard to find. I want one even more.
F-150, Full size Broncos in abundance.
"Why do they keep saying 'full size,' its a Bronco and I don't want it. OJ Simpson."
I kept looking. And looking. And looking.
Some way too much, some need too much, and so on.
Another google search a few months later lead me to the B2/Ranger forums.
"What the heck is a 'B2'?"
Click. Cool. Love.
Around Mid-March I found 3, was talking to 2 and bought one.
1988 Bronco II XL 4x4 2.9L 5 speed manual, 206,000 miles looking like someone just pulled it out of a crusher and tried winching it out by the fender after giving it a salt water bath.
650 bucks.
Awesome.
I didn't even test drive it. Here's the money, give me the keys, I'm sure it will be fine.
And it was.
I put 15,000 miles on it since March 28th without touching a thing besides a few oil changes.

So, here I am. To read a story. To share a story. I might have something you need. You might have something for me.
Glad to be here.

Welcome to the forum, nice story. You realize now you're going to have to post pics...

Welcome from a bit further inland from you. Cars/trucks up here take a beating from the Winter road salt. First new vehicle was a '84' B11 and loved it. Ford had a problem with the blue paint some years with it pealing. Find a forum and jump in and enjoy.

Yes, welcome to TRS...nice story...almost fell asleep at the end but it would have been sweet dreams...

The body can be fixed if needed...but check the frame before doing anything if you decide to get ambitious or fall in love with it so that you want to keep it...

Thanks, folks.
I'm glad my story was enjoyed by a few.
It kind of kicks off what I expect to be my memoir of how I garnered an interest in 4x4s, or something.
I mean, I already have 2 now. Almost accidentally, unexpectedly winning an auction on ebay for another 1985 Bronco II that what appears, now in my possession, to be a kid's attempt at a lifted and V8 swapped overlander/mudder...
Lol, I guess that's how collecting starts, huh?

Here's a pic of my latest acquisition, 1985 Bronco II XLT 4x4 302 V8 C4 Auto with 3-4" body lift and 33's.

That one looks pretty good...but I'd check the lift materials...tires look big too...:)

Thanks. Its not bad but not excellent either.
Check the lift materials? What do you mean? Bushing materials?
One thing I did notice though, is that the steering joint rubber under the hood is developing a crack or tear. Not sure if the angle is off because of the lift...

That's something else for another thread.
