hey guys, quick question. went offroading through some water, and am assuming the engine bay got wet. i noticed a fait squeaking. so idler pulley got wet and it will go away? bearing is toast and need to replace? or belt is slipping? it doesnt sound like a belt squeal at all. its very very faint. buddy said, take a piece of sandpaper the the back of the belt quickly to tale off a cooked layer. the engine was at running temp when it went in. truck runs fine, just an annoying squeak. thanks!

pop off the belt and spin the pulley, and everything else while youre at it. If your unsure after that, take off the pulley, hold it by the bearing with your thumb and finger and spin it and feel if it drags or clicks. As long as the bearings are good oyu should be fine.

If that thing is squealin, I'd go ahead and change it. Its a 20 dollar part, that'll take less than 20 minutes to change.

I had one go, it threw the belt and the pulley into my fan and dented the alternator pulley.

Dont chance it, just change it.
