idle not increasing when a/c is turned on.. new iac and nothing

Hey Cuban,

I'm pretty sure my problem is the EGR valve. I have all the classic symptoms of it, black inside my tailpipe, and a really bad idle, especially when cold. I just had my exhaust put on a couple weeks ago so it's brand new and it's already blackish sooty inside which means my engine's running a little rich.

I'll have the time and money on Saturday to do it so I'll keep you posted. I was even starting to think it could be my FPR but after reading up on it I don't think so. Take care.

i'm pretty sure that its not my egr cuz i don't have one, not my iac, intake mani is clean. i wonder if it could be the air intake temperature sensor?

i took off the oem intake and put a cone filter and left the air intake temp sensor out in the open.

now i don't think this could be it cuz i had a 93 mustang 2.3L and i did not affect anything.

any other ideas

I just replaced my "air intake temperature sensor" a few days ago and it did'nt make any difference at all. I'm actually pretty sure my IAC is'nt working because of the bad idle I have going. Once I fix this problem I can move onto that one if it still exists.

The CEL just came back on today on my way home from work. First it started flashing and then after about 5 or so flashes it stood on continuously. I just saw an ad in a lovcal paper for a free CEL scan so the wife offered to go take it down there for me. That's where she's at now! I'll post up the code as soon as she gets back!

Do you have a CEL on? I forgot wether or not you said. Later.

Hardware,

I have had similar problems. Have you checked to make sure you do not have a vacuume leak in your power brake assist booster? I am hearing a hissing in mine and that might be the problem I have and though of it for you. check out this thread:

Thanks a lot Joel but I just had my CEL code ran and it came back P0301. That means I have a misfire on cylinder #1. I don't see how that could happen though because these plugs AND wires are about 2-3 weeks old! Oh well, I guess I have to pull them and check. I appreciate the help though buddy! :icon_thumby:

hey joel your idea might be my probem. my booster is bad. there is nothing but hissing when i press my brake pedal. it affects the idle when pressed down all the way.

lol im really hoping that this could fix my vaccuum to the tranny as well.

my tranny shifts late and hard at times and other times that its great

the brake booster really makes sense..

i might do it ttommorrow if i dont get rid of it lol im going to the dealer to see if i can trade in my ranger.

To check you could warm up your engine to operating temp. Shut off and disconnect hose to brake booster. Plug it so you don't have a vacuum leak and restart. See what happens at idle. I think this might be a lot of my problem too.

Let me know how it works for ya.

Hey Cuban,

I don't know if you've figured it out yet but I found out what my problem is!

Today I cleaned out my MAF sensor and my IAC valve worked wonderfully! When I disconnected the wiring the motor bogged down just like it should. Also the engine idle compensated for the A/C compressor coming on. Again, just like it should. Ran beautifully too! No more stumbling/misfie at idle!

When I got back from a test run I opened the hood and unplugged the IAC again but this time the idle did'nt change. I'm thinking I need to clean it better or I just need a new MAF sensor. I'll try cleaning the MAF sensor agian and if the IAC starts working again I've definitely 100% found the problem.

Just wanted to share this information with you and see if you've found out where your demon is. Later.
