I wish this site had a mobile friendly app I could get off the play store for my smart phone. I honestly spend so much time looking things up it isn't funny lol. Just food for though. I wish I had the knowledge because I'd offer my services but I don't know the first thing about app programing. I can build computers and do simple windows and bench tests but that's about as far as I go into it. Whats everyone else's thoughts?

It does if I'm not mistaken just not familiar with it tbh lol.

I believe you can view it with the Tapatalk app?

I prefer the paper version, but do come here when I have to.

What, pray tell, is this "app" thing?

Unlike @RobbieD, I'm not such a backwards, outdated heathen that I prefer cutting down trees to make and update a paper vesion of the site. :p I do prefer viewing all forums on a computer over a cellphone, especially in a browser with ad blockers.

I think the mobile version of the site works fine for what it is. I don't see any need for a mobile app. Like @Shran, I thought that the site is, or was, accessable on Tapatalk app.

Not anymore. Forget what happened, but yeah, no more Tapatalk. When we had it, it took me a bit to get used to it, but I liked it. Now I just have a couple tabs open with it, one for the forums unless I’m referencing a particular post and one or more for the tech archives depending on what I’m into. It works well enough like that. Despite what it says by my name, I’ve been on here since like 02 so I’m used to the forums and not an app anyway.

Tapatalk was glitchy and I prefer going directly to the forums over the app. I think when the forum switched to the new software, all compatibility was gone.

With as user friendly as the forum software is on a phone, I’m not sure an app would be beneficial. In any case, the forum owner has the final call on app or no app. Even if the app development and offering were cost free, I doubt the entire project would be.

I’m not even sure the forum itself is entirely self supporting. Forums often aren’t and are a labor of love for the site owner and forum equipment, software, and support isn’t cheap. The bigger the forum, the more expensive it gets.

Android can put a website on the home screen just like any other app.

In my experience, apps for websites/forums are usually crap. Much easier just using the browser, whether it be desktop mode or mobile.

I've been on my android phone almost exclusively for nearly a decade. Other than not being able to post pics without a big hassle, it's just fine. I'm not sure why the post pic bug, not many others seem to have a problem.
I don't see an app being any better.

I'm trying to save the planet here. Wood made into paper safely holds its carbon, instead of it getting burned and putting the carbon into the air. Your grandkids will thank me . . .

I've tried them, but just don't care to have a smartphone.

Gotta go now; it's time to go watch That '70s Show, if I can get the rabbit ears adjusted right.

Peace, man.

Same here.

Jokes on you, I don't even have kids.

:icon_idea:

Electrical devices create ozone, so I'm helping save the environment too. What good is carbon saving paper if the UV exposure kills everything?

So, maybe it's your grandkids should be thanking me.

If only it really worked that way.

Get with the times, it's That '90s Show now. :bad:

I do not think Jim Oaks makes enough from this site to pay someone $75 per hour to develop AND then maintain an app. imho, If he breaks even and manages to make $8 per hour he is doing well. A website like this is more an act of love then profit.

week one, 40 hours, $3000, deciding layout and focus points

200 hours and $15,000 later we have a working app, but, it only works on Samsung phones with Android 10 and above. Submitted to Play Store for a test, rejected, infected with malware from a root kit that the developer used on his own phone for debugging through USB. Programmer quits, Jim is looking at the source code and realizes he has been FORKED, it is written in BASIC256.

And that's likely the only way that an app for a sight like this would happen. A labor of love by an app programmer in his spare time, doing it because he wants to and donates the time rather than as a job.

I go on a few different forums. This is probably the easiest one to use. Especially on the phone. Most other forums I’ve been on are almost impossible to use the full functionality unless your on desktop, even then it can be tricky.
